Poll question: Didcha or Didcha not skateboard?
Just wondering. I wear skaters shoes even though I don't skate, I tried it a couple of times, being kinda big and having little if any balance, I natrually sucked but many of my good friends did.

A crowded one at that.

2. Skateboards weren't around
when I was a kid. I did have a scooter-one that you pushed, not like they have now. And I had a radio flyer wagon.

4. Never did, too old but I do
notice that it's a boy-thing. Very few girls skateboard, but the girls do roller skate.

6. I was a local skate star in the 70's
Of course, there were only like 10 people in my town who knew what a skateboard was back then.

7. Skateboard was my car before I learned to drive.
I went everywhere on the thing. It was before doing anything more than a little ollie was radical.

Then I started driving cars. Poor ignored skateboard. :(

8. My elementary school was mentioned in "Dogtown and Z Boys"...
the outstanding documentary by Stacy Peralta that chronicles 1970s skaters in the Santa Monica-Ocean Park-Venice area of Southern California, who revolutionized the sport.

Mar Vista Elementary School had a high asphalt embankment in the northwest corner of the school -- very tempting to boarders.

Peralta ripping in back of Mar Vista Elementary School—the first playground he was officially kicked out of as a young skate rat.

9. 6'X22" plywood skateboard with metal wheels.

The smallest pebble would stop the board on a dime, and anything
but the mildest of turns would result in the board sliding out
from under you.

You sissy whippersnappers with the solid wood boards with plastic
wheels don't know what "Real" skateboarding is.

10. There were only 'pro-forma' skateboards eons ago when I was young.
You know, the kind with roller skate wheels. I did take up roller blading several years ago though.

12. A neighbour kid got one from a trip to the U.S.
Early seventies. My father tried it, too, and fell badly. Some years later, I even skated with a backpack while hitchhiking ... and also to work. I never did any tricks. Got my face and legs and arms pretty bruised one day, requiring a trip to the hospital.

I prefer my bicycle now. Much more convenient.
