Sad story in the Gazette today......
http://www.gazette.com/display.php?sid=1242845

Several years ago, in the early 80's, I had this gentleman as a professor in an Economics class...we studied Reaganomics for a semester. It was a very stimulating class. I recall that one day he walked in perfectly "normal" and the next day, he was walking with a cane. My wife informed me that she had heard he had MS...and today, about 20 years later, I read his story in the paper.... :(

1. Very Sad
he sounds like he has so much to contribute to society. I have known two people who have died of MS. The symptoms are debilitating.

2. My Dad did and it was so sad to see him fail.
Right to the end he had a great wit.

4. Huge rise in brain diseases
Edited on Sun Sep-26-04 09:15 PM by KT2000
this is indeed a sad story - and he is only 58 years old.

"The numbers of sufferes of brain diseases, including Alzheimer's. Parkinsons and motor neuron disease, have soared across the West in less than 20 years, scientists have discovered."

The alarming rise, which includes figures showing rates of dementia have trebled in men, has been linked to rises in levels of pesticides, industrial effluents, domestic waste, car exhausts and toher pollutants, says a report in the journal Public Health."

When politicians talk about the environment I don;t think they fully appreciate that we are also talking about the viability of our population.
