1. I Think It's His Strongest Album
Even though there are no major hits, there are no weak tracks, unlike his other releases. Every song is different and the playing is filled with energy and creativity. Fewer of the songs are hard acid numbers, and there are some nice quirky pieces like "Belly Button Window."

I love "Back from the Storm" and can't understand why it's not well known. The extremely strange "My Friend" is one of my favorite Hendrix songs of all. Anyone who likes Hendrix but doesn't own The Cry of Love should get it immediately.

4. My favorite Jimi legend was that he predicted his death
to the day in the lyrics "Belly Button Window".

That "you only got 200 days" line was recorded in the studio 200 days before Hendrix died.

I haven't checked out the rumor since I heard it in somebody else's high school report in 1977, but it's fun to think about.

I doubt it's true.

2. Wow...is that still in print?
I know a few years back, MCA chopped it up (yet again), and issued the songs from that disc on about 3 others.

6. I had "Voodoo Soup"
Which, for a time, was the only way to get those tracks on CD.

8. Yes, a relic from the Alan Douglas years...
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 11:23 AM by Bush_Eats_Beef
The first thing the Hendrix family did when they regained control of the estate and catalog was to obliterate everything Douglas laid his hands on and start all over again...first, with the "three official releases" (Are You Experienced, Axis: Bold As Love, Electric Ladyland), then adding live sets and compilations.

Douglas was responsible for the catalog after Hendrix's death and made a few very questionable decisions (like the two albums in which he stripped off the backing tracks and had studio musicians "jamming" with Jimi..."Crash Landing" and "Midnight Lightning").

7. I remember the day I bought this album
Edited on Mon Sep-27-04 11:17 AM by livetohike
and took it back to my dorm room and cried

While almost all of Hendrix' songs are my favorite songs, I love Angel and Belly Button Window from this album.
