But you're talking about specifics? No, you're generalizing that the white people have power and the black don't, therefore one isn't as bad, right?

Well, specifics throw that out the window. Take a black guy who runs a business. He fires a guy or refuses to hire him based on race, is that racism? The black guy has the power in this scenario, so what makes this different from a white business owner doing the exact same thing with the races switched? According to your view, the white guy would be bad because he is white, and the black guy would be solid because he is black. Shouldn't your view of racism avoid discriminating based on race? That seems to be rather contradictory.

You can't say generally which kind of racism is more harmful--there are only examples. You can say the examples add up to form a complete pciture, but the story is the same--racism is always bad, but when combined with authority to harm others with it's worse. You don't have to be black, white, Hispanic or Asian to do that--every race does it.

You're saying that discrimination based on race has no teeth, so long as you are not the group with political or economic power. That's ridiculous, for all the reasons I pointed out to you above.

Racism is exactly the same for all races--discrimination based on race. Again, if a black business owner fires a white employee just because she's white, in your view that has no 'teeth' because blacks have generally less power in society? How does the general relate to this specific case? Because blacks don't have comparable power in society to whites, this black business owner doesn't have power over his employee? That doesn't make sense--the specifics are what defeat your argument. Your argument is that the power makes the difference--in the microcosm of this business, the black business owner has the power, and the employee has none. So where does your model for toothless racism stand then?

Do you have running averages of each race's share of power, trying to figure what degree of excusability each race can claim for its racism as they all vie for political and economic power?

Nonsense. Discrimination based on race is wrong. The specific racist's personal ability to act on that discrimination can make it worse, but you can't say 'blacks have less power than whites, therefore all racism from blacks towards whites is toothless.' That's just silly.

And as to the other conversation betwixt HeyHey and some others - I agree, racism is racism, doesn't matter who's doing it or to whom it is directed. Racism is wrong.

But I have to say, I find that guy's remarks about the hurricanes and whitey to be a) understandable, and b) kind of funny, since it would get rid of the republicans in Florida. (and, obviously, a bunch of democrats, but this joke falls into the "cathartic humor" mold for me, not the "I really want it to happen" mold).

And before som knee-jerker goes ballistic on me, yes, please, I totally understand the whole power issue problem blah blah blah blah yes, and yes the whitey guy has been in control over most things for a long time, blah blah blah blah. Yes, I get it, I agree with it, I've never argued anything against that.
