My New Favorite TV Commercial: Geico's "Tiny House" Promo
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 08:17 AM by arwalden
Have you seen it yet?? It's hysterical!!

It starts off looking like a standard promotion for a new reality show. We see video of a couple getting married and the voice-over announcer says "The wedding is real... but the house is small."

We quickly learn that the premise of the new reality show is that a newlywed couple agrees to live in a "Tiny House" and have their lives videotaped for one year. The "Tiny House" is just that... a 1/2 scale house. Short ceilings, small beds, tiny kitchen with tiny pots and pans.

We see the couple entering the house for the first time and the husband remarks "cool". Quick transitions of hidden-video clips show us that the newlywed couple is having difficulty in adapting to life in the new small cramped conditions. One night-vision clip shows the difficulty they have in getting a full night's sleep in their tiny bedroom. Another clip shows the husband's exasperation at his inability to cook in the tiny kitchen and we also see the wife losing her temper and snarling back at her husband "it's not so cool NOW is it?" (Hilarity ensues.)

This is one of the most truly inspired commercials I've ever seen!

I thought it was for real! It had me going until the end when the GEICO logo appears. The bit closes with a shot of our couple sitting in a tiny hot-tub (about the size of a large washtub) on a tiny deck.

2. I haven't seen that one yet.
Most of Geico's commercials are pretty good, though!

3. I like the one where the family
is taking a trip and they are all singing "She'll Be Coming Around The Mountain" and he breaks into "Kung Fu Fighting" and then they all end up singing it. Cracks me up!

Funny stuff. And I didn't even have the sound on the TV on and I was intrigued.

5. Yeah, I saw it
I was half paying attention because I thought it was just another reality show. But then I caught the end, and when in came on again I watched it. It really is pretty funny.
They come up with some good stuff for advertisements.

6. That's a show I'd watch at least once
Great concept for a show... I was actually disappointed to find it's fake.

I really don't like most reality shows... oh well.

7. Hysterical! My husband thought I'd lost my mind.
Why can't the writers of the great TV commercials (Southwest Airlines, Geico, Staples, Jack-in-the-Box) write for TV programs???

I thought it was the real deal for a while, too.
