I am glad the Dallas/Washington thread did not deteriorate
into juvenile name calling.

Oh, wait - it did.

As for me - I dislike Dallas, but I DETEST Washington, so I'm fine.

I'm a St. Louis Rams fan - trust me, I got enough problems of my own..

Do you think we could convince Danny Snyder that Mike Martz is a really good coach???

It worked for Spurrier... :)

2. I detest Dallas....
...but then again, I don't like pro sports. If I have to watch, I like to watch the Packers. But I mostly just don't care.

5. And you would be right!
Ever seen the Repug list of donations? Half of em come from those idiots and their twit owner.

I hate football precisely because of this team. You can't escape from them here. It's a religion. And I am an atheist.

6. Jerry Jones' Donations:
$3000 to Lu Hardin (D)
$5000 for Democratic Senatorial Campaign
$2000 to Samuel Johnson (R)

You have been served, but wait, there's more!

Emmitt Smith:
$3000 to Ronald Kirk (D)

Again, you've been served.

19. Jerry Jones is an asshole no matter who he donates to.
He owns a full city block in Highland Park. He ACTS just like a Repuke. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

Emmitt Smith is one of the few Cowboys I've ever respected.

Looked up Roger Staubach or Troy Aikman? I don't care if they still play or not. They're Repuke to the core.

22. Yes, Jones is annoying.
Last night one of the commentators said something about the fans in Dallas having grown to accept him. I think 'tolerate' might have been a more appropriate word.

Frickin ego... we should have had Johnson one more year at least.

Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 08:58 AM by Screaming Lord Bob
everyone will always find "stars" from teams that donated one way or the other. That's why I don't mix my sports and politics... (like saying xxxxx is the manifestation of the repub party)

15. You miss my meaning
The Cowboys are successful
The Cowboys are in Texas
The Cowboys have made themselves "America's" team through marketing, disparaging the others in the process.

I don't give a rat's ass who Snyder and Gibbs or Jones and Parcells support in politics.

I'm talking metaphor here.

21. Yes, Marketing
This "America's team" stuff came up in the 1980s when San Francisco was the dominant franchise

23. I don't care about the marketing
Dallas is one of the all time winningest teams.

I know it hurts, but there it is.

your team hasn't smelled the playoffs since 1999?

20. Nah, it's long-term
I hated the cowboys since Green Bay beat them in the
Ice Bowl when I was but five years old.

I have family in Houston, and they all hate Dallas

I just have a New York Yankees-type dislike of the franchise.

I just don't like the image.........

I had no idea that hilariously upset Skins fans getting riled over having their hissyfit posts deleted could brighten up my morning so.

Ahhh, the simple pleasures in life...

17. On a serious football note
Edited on Tue Sep-28-04 09:18 AM by DancingBear
I am becoming less enamored with pro sports (football, especially) by the year.

The seriousness with which some take it is frightening - I find it appalling that the same people who know where the third string left tackle went to college do not know who represents them in Congress, or where Pakistan is on a map, or how to balance a checkbook.

Add to this the idiotic "war" mentality that permeates the league now (I won't even attend games anymore due to what passes for fan "behavior") and the disgusting player conduct - well, I'm getting more and more removed.

I've had NFL Sunday Ticket on DirecTV since its inception - I don't think I'll be renewing.

24. Dang Sunday Ticket?
I like watching games, but not enough to fork out so much money for it.

And disgusting fan behavior is nothing new... what was it that Eagles fans packed in snowballs to hurl at the 'boys way back when? That was before Reagan, even, IIRC.

26. It goes up $20 per year -without fail

As for fan behavior, you're right - it's been around in its boorish form forever - but NEVER like this. I used to be an usher for NY Giant games way back when (they played in the Yale Bowl for 2 years) and you used to be able to take your kids. No more - not even for college games. I'm an Ohio State grad, and we get back to Columbus for a game or two every year - sad to see the stands fill with folks who have never even seen a college classroom, but know where all the beer stands are.
