Check out the lyrics to Green Day's new song
I got these lyrics from a lyrics site - I don't think they're 100% correct - but close enough.

The song is getting heavy airplay on MTV - it's a buzz clip. It's a great and catchy song too - with a great video.

American Idiot

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation under the new media.
And can you hear the sound of hysteria?
The subliminal mindfuck America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

Well maybe I'm the fuckhead America.
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda.
Now everybody do the propaganda.
And sing along in the age of paranoia.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

Don't wanna be an American idiot.
Don't want a nation controlled by the media.
Information nation of hysteria.
It's going out to idiot America.

Welcome to a new kind of tension.
All across the alien nation.
Everything isn't meant to be okay.
Television dreams of tomorrow.
We're not the ones who're meant to follow.
Convincing them to walk you.

1. THank you!
I thought the song was singing

Well maybe I'm a faggot america
I'm not a part of a redneck agenda

And although I could understand the powerfullness of that message (either you are with the rednecks are you are gay) fuckhead is some much less controversial. . .

5. I think you're right... and it's a far more powerful image.
I'm also thinking the line in the refrain is "We're not the ones we're meant to follow"

my $0.02

6. I just bought 'American Idiot' today!
I can't stop listening to it! Fabulous CD, and I've never bought a Green Day CD before, so it must be good if it hooked me.

I also bought the new Interpol CD, I recommend that highly too!

7. They did that song on Letterman the night Kerry was on.
It was a perfect closer for the show.

8. I've heard it. Powerful. And I'm not even a Green Day fan.
Is this the first time they've ever put out an explicitly political record? It certainly seemed to connect with me.

11. yeah it's "faggot"
and they bleeped the word on the radio... interesting. Seemed like a good kind of sensitivity, I think, unless they wanted not to offend those who fear such things. Not sure.

all in all great song.

13. Wow! Maybe I should start listening to them again!
I had a crazy ass inexplicable crush on the bassist (Mike Durst? I forgot) when I was like 13. Don't ask. I still don't know, to this day. :P

I'll definitely pick this up. Damn now I want to go find Kerplunk and pop it in. :)
