I'm playing UK in Axis & Allies tonight. Any great strategies?
It's been a very long time since I played the UK. I got a pretty poor player in Germany and a newbie in the USA. Good player in Japan and so-so in the Soviet Union.

I expect I'll keep Germany's airforce and navy out of the game and maybe fight in Africa. That'll leave America more room to deal with Japan.

Any tips?

4. Love that game!!!
UK is hard, cause you don't get a lot of action in the early game, especially if the Germans go after you Navy. Build up and protect your navy at all costs to be worth anything...

7. that's about what I had in mind
The alternative is to basically break Germany by having him waste all his $ on planes trying to take me out (navy and airforce, that is, if he actually takes the island the game is basically over), while the USSR slowly advances on him, but that's a really boring angle.

/wrings hands...

11. I hate to admit it...
But playing the Germans is the most fun.

And I'm Jewish. And a pacifist.

Blasphemy, I know...

13. I'm a complete pacifist too, buuuuuuut...
Germany is where all the action is, so it's definitely the most fun to play. The USSR comes in second in my book, and some of that is because it's the most critical and difficult. A poor player in Russia and you can pretty much kiss the game goodbye.

the US and UK are the least fun, I'd say.

6. It's an 80's era board game. Not too complicated
but not too simple either. A good game takes at least 4 hours. A great game can take much more. Beyond 12 hours, though, it kinda gets tedious.

It's kinda like RISK on steroids, but nowhere near most of the "bookshelf games", none of which I've ever played.

It's best when you have 5 people, but can be played with as few as two.

i think there's a computer version around too, but I've never picked it up. Might be worth a trip to ebay though... :)

9. Speaking of Bookshelf games...
You should try 3rd Reich.

A lot of fun if you don't end up arguing all night about the rules.

10. I know, I know. I've heard it's great...
but never had the patience to really learn how to play, let alone find other people equally patient.

12. There's a DOS computer version
You can play against the computer or take turns with other people.

It at least takes the Rules arguments out of the equation.

16. Plays LOTS of Axis and Allies heres what i would do..
Note: I would not win all the time so dont take my word for it.
Gremany: I would just hold off the soviets and not try anything too drastic untill i got europe.. I would use my armor and troops to pound eroupe and take England ( not easy!! )..Chip away at Africa and use what navy I had to take out any americans that are trying to bring troops and armor into europe.. Then Slowly work my way up from south America to north america..
America: Engage the Japaneese in the waters with my navy..Take islands and build troops there so I could island hop..Try to get bombers close as I could to Japan to weaken it before moving in for the kill. Try to get any China spaces that are occupied by the Japaneese to get them on two sides.. Somtimes I would forget about the Germans and they would take advantage of that..Try to get as many spare troops and tanks to Europe and pray that the Guy playing England is good..With the Japannese Occipied with you it should give the Soviets room to breath to go after Germany
Japaneese: Engage the americans head on in the pacific. Buy Navy up the wazoo. Dont let them get any foothold on any islands. Use what troops you have to chip away at the soviets. Take Canada and build industry and rain pain upon the americans. Keep a sharp eye out for any movements up thru india.
England: Try to make a path thru denmark and come at the Germans from the north..they will move more troops up from the front in france and spain and hit them below with the americans..Chip away at africa ESP the north..
Soviets: Hold the Germans off at the front try to make the pay for comming at you ..Take north Europe and move down with some suprise strikes in the south to keep them guessing.. Chip away at the Japaneese in China when you can and try to get bombers in close to japan to help weaken it for the americans

17. Spend all of your money on infantry and bombers.
Maybe a transport ship for a sneak attack, after the nazi navy has been weakened. Otherwise your best bet is to convince the Yanks to send some grunts to help. They could supply the transport for that sneak attack. Make em send you some bombers too. Ask them if they aren't concerned with the freedom of the free world or what?
