besides the labeling, does one hold more info, or produce better quality or anything?

Thanks everybody!

2. Yeah...
The Music CDRs are for systems like the Phillips CD Recorder, which won't record on regular CDRs (due to royalty arrangements)

I don't think your computer will work with Music CDRs, plus they cost more.

3. A cd-r is a cd-r
the distinguishing factor between the two varieties is CD-R and CD-RW.

CD-R's are capable of holding data, music, images, etc.
CD-RW's can hold all the same media, however they are rewriteable.

4. No.
There's no difference between the 1's and 0's used to represent music and the 1's and 0's used to represent other sorts of data. So no, there's no difference between music CD-Rs and standard CD-Rs (besides the labeling and price). You might also check the size (it will always say on the packaging) -- it might vary, but that's not dependent on the 'kind' of CD-R it is.

6. The only difference is the cost.
Music CDRs include a royalty that is paid to the music industry.

The physical CDRs are exactly the same.

8. Music CDRs are encoded
They have an encoding that tells these Music CD-Recorders that it is a licensed disc. (These are the ones that work like a cassette recorder with your stereo -- most useful for transferring vinyl/cassettes to CD, recording radio, etc.) Putting in a regular blank CDR or CDRW just gives a disc error. It might be hackable, but that's why Music CDs exist.

The Music CDs don't offer any benefit when used with computer burners, and may not even work (I've never tried). I think that's the question at hand. :)

7. Music CD-R and CD-R
Some CD players won't read regular CD-Rs unless you record them as Track-at-once and finalize the CD. It's also best to record the blanks at no faster than 16x or 20x speed.

9. I record both
Data and Music on CD-Rs. I also burn all my Cd's at 24x without a problem. Best advice I can give anyone is never buy cheep CD-Rs spend a little more and get quality.

10. Our business has two recorders, both Teac, that
will not record on ANYTHING but MUSIC CD-Rs. Believe me, we've tried. It is due to the recorder using Sony SCCD encryption. Only works with Music CD-Rs.
