Best Under the Radar Movie.
What are the best movies you have seen that you had not heard of before seeing? You know, movies that we completely or mostly unknown.

"Equilibrium" was one that really impressed me.

1. Down by Law with Tom Waits and Roberto Benigni
One of my favorites, Tom Waits is just beyond cool.

3. Lonestar
John Sayles pic with Chris Cooper (1st time I saw him, knew he was going places), and many other notables -- murder mystery switching back and forth from present to 20 years prior. Underlying themes of racism, the relativity of corruption, father-son relationships...complex and riveting.
Beautifully shot/edited and lit.

Haven't seen 'Down By Law' - always meant to - a friend raved about it and I'm a big Waits fan (shame on me)

7. Cradle Will Rock
great cast; lots of story fragments (maybe too many) to remind the viewer of what was going on in this country in the early 1930s.

8. "Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind"
I liked this movie a lot. There's a great song by Beck on the soundtrack, too.

12. Knife in the Water
Maybe Polanski's first film and a great one. Filmed on B&W (so many classics are) it's about a love triangle on a small sailboat in Poland.

Highly recommended.

14. Any John Sayles film.
Lone Star was great, but he has many many others.

Matewan, for example.

15. Glengarry, Glenross.
Not exactly under the radar, but just a great film that did not enjoya lot of commercial success.

17. Several Akira Kurosawa films.
One of my favorites is "Ikiru" (To Live).

Story of a Japanese bureacrat whose life is meaningless until he faces death, and the eventual impact he has on those close to him after he dies.

A simple, but beautiful film.
