I HATE AOL! They suspended my account...
I was minding my own business on AOL when some pervert in my local city instant messaged me. I was nice at first, he was wanting advice and such. But, then he got an attitude. So I blocked him, he emailed me, I then blocked his emails, then he instant messaged me on one of his other screen names, and then kept harassing me. During the course of this, I guess I called him a "fat fucking loser..." So, he reported me! Fucking asshole. So, I just try to sign onto AOL and they have suspended my account. So, when my mother wakes up tomorrow, signs on, and reads her email, she will have one from AOL I am sure describing my violation of the terms of service, only giving his side of the story, wtf. She will be pissed, probably kick me off of the family's AOL and hopefully AOL won't ban my entire family from AOL (my family likes AOL). Has anyone ever had a similar experience. This suspension of the account, or problems with being reported to AOL.

Jessica

1. yes call customer service
your mom will have to, and explain the situation

Most of the time they will give it back to you

Oh and KEEP A LOG of all these things and SEND THEM TO AOL

Yuo are a minor I take it... use taht line, whether AOL allows harrasment of minors... they will ... allow yuo back.

Trust me I have had that problem from time to time... and quite frankly the CAT team sometimes over reacts

But make sure you talk with mom before you all the call center in India

4. Not a minor...
but a nice 23 year old. The guy was a freaking pervert who was 33 years old and harassing me. I didn't save the instant messages because I was just going to forget about it. I did report his email he sent as SPAM. But, he instant messaged me on AIM one of the times, and there is nothing you can do about harassment on AIM.

I live 1000 miles away from home, explaining this to my mom on the phone will not be pleasant, wish me luck.

7. Just called customer service...
No help at all. They want to speak to my mom, the "master" screen name holder. I could call and act like I am my mom, but I am not sure I could pull it off, as I don't know her password (otherwise I would delete the email from AOL). That is fine if AOL wants to kick me off, they fucking suck anyways, but if the entire account of my family is kicked off, I am in trouble. AOL would be crazy to do it, we have been members for several years. I turned someone in for vulgar language and nothing ever happened to him, this is such bullshit.

8. then talk to your mon as soon as you can
She will need to call them... and she will not be able to sign anyhow until she calls them

Also you do not know what CAT does when yuo report anybody, part of their policy never to report to you what happened.

I have reported folks as well

Now to AOL first offense, tehy will not kick anybody off,

Next time just report them, don't even engage them

2. Ha I had the complete opposite problem!
First, somehow my account divided into two accounts without me even knowing it.

After a month or so, my mom tried cancelling the account and they gave her the run around, said they'd give her free stuff la la if she stayed on. Despite her greatest efforts they would not cancel it.

Then I tried getting it suspended through means of vulgarity. So I literally spent hours tracking the guides and swearing them out only to get warnings and temporary time outs. Eventually after one month and countless hours swearing and being obscene and vulgar, my account got cancelled. Unfortunately I had no idea that the other account existed and they kept charging us for that. To which the whole thing had to be repeated!!

they will offer you the service for like a dollar a month just to keep you with it. We finally severed the ties with aol. they just suck. the only thing aol is good for is random promiscuous sex hookups if that is your thing.

15. I met a really nice guy from AOL....
We dated and we never had sex! And he's the only relationship I had that ended amicably. I guess it happens occasionally.

3. Did you save the IMs?
If you did, you can use those saved files to prove what happened.

Next time, use the report button on jerks like him...better move than name calling using foul language (which, by the way, is a TOS offense...)

I was turned in about a year ago for providing a couple of links in a chat room when someone asked for more info and links...links such as www.factcheck.org and commondreams.org....guess some repug thought it was offensive. Anyway, I had to call AOL, and they gave me a temporary password to get back online....they give you one hour to change the password once you sign back on.

Good luck!

9. Get off AOL and get a real ISP.
AOL is a joke; get a real Net account where you aren't subject to the whims of censors and busybodies.

10. I know...I know
I would never pay for AOL myself, but since my parents do, I just kind of use it because it is free. Now, if only I could convince my parents to drop AOL, that would be rewarding after this bullshit. I honestly didn't realize you couldn't cuss in instant message conversations. I will let you all know what happens...

SCREW AOL.

11. They might be able to get the email forwarded
to a new account, or it may be possible for them to continue accesssing the email through the web.

AOL really is the sewer of ISPs. It's terrible. I suppose some could like their cute button bars, but anyone with half a brain can use a normal web browser.

I see no appeal that AOL has.

12. Go to another server
I'm lucky in that I live so far out in the boonies I can't even get AOL-the only service is my local phone company. I have no idea if they have all the rules you talk about-I have a feeling they don't, since they don't have instant messaging, etc-they just get you online.

Anyway, go with another server. Then get ALL your email at a place that isn't connected with your server-I use yahoo.

13. Ok...
Emailed my mom last night. Apparently all we had to do was reset everyones passwords. When I called her she wasn't mad. In fact, she was with someone (not sure who, maybe my aunt) who had the same thing happen, so my mom was completely on my side. She just told me to report someone before they report me. Oh, she didn't need to call AOL, but she will call later to tell them what happened, so they know I was being harassed. I guess this is the second time we have been reported, I think my sister had the same situation happen to her before. 2 strikes against my family, watch out!

Jessica

For any AOL users, watch out for FROTHEEDOG, he is a pervert, psycho and nothing but trouble.

16. I got permanently booted after 4 strikes
Years ago. I basically harassed the Star Trek and Rosie O'Donnell chat rooms. The Rosie fans were particularly touchy - they do not like to be reminded how disproportionally big Rosie's head is.

17. I got kicked off because I would argue about Reagan
Call AOHELL's CS number and speak to a supervisor and tell her that you have proof that the person was harassing you.
