Why do you guys call bush *?

Whenever his rise to power is noted, there you will find the noble asterisk, leading diligent readers to the footnote explaining how bush had his brother and the manager of his election campaign in Florida destroy democracy in order to tip the balance of the electoral college against the actual winner of the election.

Plus, a lot of us just get sick of seeing his name.

15. I heard that * was originated with the controversy concerning the

homeruns hit by Roger Marris in 1961. Something like a foul ball that turned into a homerun was counted and that technically, Marris didn't break Babe Ruth's record of 60 homeruns, and therefore an asterisk was used next to Marris' name to designate that his feat didn't really count. Or something like that . . .

Maris played a 162-game season. Maris didn't break the 60 HR record within the equivalent 154 games, so the powers-that-were stuck an * to his record, thereby diminishing it.

It could be argued, conversely, that Ruth didn't have to contend with air travel, or play games in Los Angeles, either, as Maris did.
