I'm out-numbered at work
At least as far as the bumper sticker war goes. It's 4 Bush/Cheney stickers to my 1 Kerry/Edwards sticker. My boss is a Republican, too. He had all this Bush paraphenalia hanging around his cubicle last election. He recently told me that union workers are lazy. We're not a union shop, but our biggest client is. We're a trucking company btw and I'm a trucker. I've never had a problem with any of the workers at our biggest client. They've always been friendly and they load and unload my truck as soon as I get there even if I'm there before my appointment time. Their union has endorsed Kerry.

Somebody tell me why a bunch of truckers who make 40k a year would be Bush supporters.

2. You got that right
Mystifying is a good word. The sorry bastards that I work with who'll be voting Bush are voting against their own best interests. I don't know what they see in him. Maybe it's some psychological disorder.

You know what, my grandfather owns like 5 rifles and he is the biggest and most partisan democrat out there, though he's a conservative one.

6. I don't know
I don't talk politics at work because I don't want to get into any arguments that might affect the way I do things. I've got it pretty good there considering it's a non-union shop. I've got one of the best dedicated runs they've got. That means I do the same route every day so I have a set schedule which is highly desireable in trucking. So I basically keep to myself as far as controversial topics go. The bumper sticker is the only indication of my political views and nobody has mentioned anything about it so far.

It could be very damaging to our company if the workers at our client knew of his views about union workers.

12. Ha ha
Well, as far as quitting smoking goes I lasted 3 days. I'm thinking of going to the doctor and getting a prescription. The withdrawl just got the better of me.

18. sorry to hear it
it took me a couple hundred tries to quit.

"okay, this is my last pack."
next day
"man, I need a cig, I'll quit tomorrow, this will be my last pack."

Finally, I was sick, and coughing so hard it made me dry heave; then I laid around in bed for most of a week. When I was feeling better, I had got past the worst of the withdrawal. Only took me getting to the point of seriously trying to cough my lungs out of my body. :eyes:

2 1/2 years, though now. :)

15. Yeah there are a lot of characters out there on the road
They usually aren't a very subtle or nuanced bunch, either. I heard one Bush supporting driver on the cb one time speaking of his preference for Republicans. Then another guy came on there and said he thought Democrats were better because they ensured that there was enough to go around to everybody or at least tried to make it that way.

You just never know with these guys sometimes. You'll be out there riding down the road and hear all kinds of shallow horseshit and then somebody will come on and say something profound.

13. Seems to me where the Republicans get most of their lower income, blue
collar support is from their co-opting the "macho" agenda. By that, I mean they are the "manly" party where gays are hated, guns are worshiped, women are second class citizens, abortion is outlawed, a man's man makes his own way in this world without the help of others, government programs are communist, intellectualism is for effete nerds, and so on. I could go on forever, but that's a good sample of what side of the issues the Republicans are on, and most men for some reason, naturally gravitate to whatever side seems the most "manly", even when it directly goes against their own interests. Repugs have exploited this characteristic of men greatly over the years. They've turned the democrats into the socialistic pansy party. That's why it really pleases me to see such folks as Wes Clark come out on our side. I think that kind of support helps tremendously, by directly negating the stereotype the Repugs try to use to portray democrats.

14. These bush people are such sickos'.
Today, the Repugs. I work with were chortling it up about some kind of sick internet find..Did not catch its origins..They printed up a sick joke some GOP politician told an audience in Florida.
It went something like....About the Iraqi torture at Abu Gubrig..
Should tortueing an Iraqi save one American soldier's life, then I am ready to inform the torturers that red is positive and black negative."
They printed it handed it about and chortled..What short minded, unthinking people...Iraqi tortureing will cost many an American life.
The audience in Florida supposedly went into wild applause. Sounds Repug to me.

20. Who do you think is more fit for command?
Somebody who pulled strings to get into the guard to get out of being drafted and sent to a war zone or a man who volunteered to go into a war zone?

Is it moral to get a thousand people (and counting) killed for an unecessary war?

21. Damn! You're just a barrel of laughs.. like the chimp you call your leader
You haven't answered one post since you've been here. I REALLY want to know why you are not in Iraq fighting for your Führer Bushitler. If you support Bush, you MUST enlist in the military - it doesn't matter if you've served before, you're too old, missing a leg - NO EXCUSES! I want to see a commitment from you, right here right now, that you will stand by your leader and your god and go fight! Or are you just an elephant full of hot air?
