Swedish Authorities turn down two parents request to name son 'Superman'
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 06:08 AM by Champ
Swedish authorities have turned down a request by two parents to register Superman as a name for their child.

The parents wanted their son to be named after the cartoon superhero because they say he was born with one arm pointing upwards, the position Superman flies in.

The local tax authorities said 'no', arguing the name could lead to the boy being subjected to ridicule in later life.

The ruling has also been upheld by an appeals court.

1. You really have to wonder
what some parents are thinking of when they name their kids.

We made lots of silly jokes about what we'd name our kids before they were born, but settled for ordinary mainstream names.

2. When I taught at a nursery school, two students named after characters
in Star Wars because the parents were so bonkers about the movie. The boy was all right; his name was Luke. The girl: DeeToo.
Punchline: their last name was Rabinowitz.
