Halloween Plans?
Anyone have any good plans for halloween, for kids? Im not doing the party thing this year so Im trying to find new ideas. We have a haunted house not too far but they go there every year. Any thoughts?

1. No trick or treating?
That's what we used to do. The goal was to keep walking until you had a pillowcase entirely filled with candy.

3. Oh yes
We couldnt keep them for trick or treating if we bound them in duct tape! ;) I was looking for other activities though, before halloween. We usually have a party but none of us are up to it this year.

2. Woo hooo! My favorite topic!
reprehensor and I are having a huge all-liberal Halloween party. Much fun will be poked at Republicans. Great music, great food, great atmosphere. I've been working on this since May!

Many of our local DUers have been invited already. If you're in Dallas and want to come, PM me. I may run out of time for making you a fancy invite, but you're still welcome to come.

5. Wow
Looks and sounds like you go all out! Very cool. Alas, I am far from Dallas and my kids are too young to appreciate that kind of party anyway. Sounds fun though. Damn I wish I was younger and single some days.

6. Thanks! We'll post lots of pix from the party, G.
I'm hoping I'll be able to put out some little disposable cameras around the place so we'll get a varied sampling of photos and fun.

We're having a pumpkin carving contest and costume judging with prizes too. :D

4. Sure.
I did this for years, when we lived too remote to consider trick-or-treating; we had literally no neighbors, or neighborhood. I never missed the costumes or candy. ;-)

Stay home. Carve tiny little pumpkins to make votive candle holders. Make spiced cider in a crockpot, bake homemade cookies or brownies, and make popcorn balls. Leave a little popcorn outside for the spirits passing by, and toast your "ancestors" with the cider. Spend a few minutes contemplating them, and then toast them "goodbye." Curl up with your cider, cookies, and popcorn balls to watch old movies. Wizard of Oz is a good choice, imo.

More time, and need more to do? Make a scarecrow with straw stuffed into old clothes. Decorate. Hang outside to guard the house on hallow's eve.

Still more time, and more stuff? Go to the library. Research the history, and teach your kids about the origins of "Halloween," and how different cultures have interpreted it.

7. That might be good
Im looking for something to do pre halloween. I should have clarified that. The young ones would get into the cookies and cider thing though.

We will definitely carve pumkins and make a scarecrow. That is a big deal around here. Of course, the wife and I end up doing everything while the kids watch but, cest la vie!

Good ideas. Thanks

8. Dress up as Two-Face
or the Evil Cheney and go down to your local Democratic HQ.
Scare the campaign workers, then take off your mask and hand out treats to everyone.
