Chicago DUers Oct. 5 meetup: Where and what time?
Original thread here:

RationalRose is staying in the Hyde Park area, so two suggestions were
The Cove on 55th or Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap

I've never been to either. Any other ideas and what time would work for everyone?

You and Mrs Beastie are invited to the next weekend Chicago gathering. Should be in a few months.

6. Guys, I'm sorry. I'm going to pass. I get up hideously early...
to go to work. 4AM. I'd be a basket case at work the next day.

Sorry...I wish I could be there.

But I WILL be there at the next DU get together. :-)

I'll be there. Either of the places will be fine. I don't know that much about the Hyde Park area.

10. Hmm..that's a Tuesday.
I usually reserve Tuesday evenings for my butt facial appointment.

I suppose I could make it, though I've never been to either place.

Like a spa facial, but for your butt. Why it isn't called a buttial, or an assial, I don't know.....

14. I just got back from Chicago
visiting family in Vernon Hills. For those of you who don't know, Skittles is a native Illinoisian (Rantoul). It was so nice to get a break from Bush-worshiping country.

No wonder you joined the USAF. They closed Chanute when I was in grad school at ISU.

21. Rantoul...not that far from where I was born. A Decaturite here.
I was born in the former "Soybean Capital of the World". :-)

I remember going to Chanute for the air show every year.

That was the only reason to waste gas to go there.

Unless you want to see Archer Daniels Midland in all its glory.

31. Hi guys!
Better late than never, right?

Don't know that I can make it (I've had to work very late the last couple of weeks), but my strong suggestion would be for Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap over The Cove. My sister (who works at U of C) mentioned to me, that The Cove is really packed with college students on Tuesdays because of some pitcher beer special.

Just my two cents. :-)

Hope I can make it!

33. OK, sounds like we have a plan!
7 p.m. (or thereabout) at Jimmy's Woodlawn Tap

Here's the details on the place:
1172 E. 55th St.

Woodlawn Tap is a scruffy place, and has been since it opened more than 50 years ago. It attracts a diverse clientele -- artists, business people, students from the University of Chicago, construction workers, booksellers and Nobel Prize winners. Regular patrons have included anthropologist Margaret Mead and writers Saul Bellow and Dylan Thomas. Alongside the bottles of scotch and gin there's an encyclopedia and the complete works of William Shakespeare.

37. Not near the Blue Line.
Not really near any CTA trains.

Best to take the Metra Electric line to 55th and walk west a few blocks. You catch that at Randolph and Michigan.
