1. Ewwwwwww. One or the other I MIGHT be able to deal with
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 12:09 PM by ET Awful
but both is just nauseating. Not liking here based on smell is perfectly appropriate since it's self-applied stench.

3. Talk to her about it
Or, leave her an anonymous note.

I've been known to tell women who pour the perfume on, "Nice perfume. Must you marinate in it?" (OK, I only did that once, and I'm still waiting to retrieve my left testicle from one of my sinuses...)

4. I Might Be The Same Way....
anytime I have ever inadvertently breathed someone else's bad breath it is over for me. I always think of halitosis when I think of them in the future.

5. One of my friends has the nastiest STANK-BREATH.
She doesn't smoke, drink coffee, or eat cat poop. I prefer to keep her at arm's length when I talk to her.

6. One problem with people who smoke
is that they really have no idea that they reek of cigarettes, and it's an odor highly unpleasant to many non-smokers. On the other hand, it's possible this woman is aware of that, and is trying to "sweeten" her odor with the perfume. Only it's a scent you don't like at all, which makes it worse. Of course, putting on too much is also the problem.

You really can't do much about the cigarette odor, since she's probably not going to stop smoking. But the line about marinating in perfume might work.

Good luck.

As for bad breath, some people just have it, even if they don't eat spicy/highly flavored food. They may or may not be aware of it. I have a problem with it, and my husband is able to tell me when I need to suck on a breath mint. It's worse when I'm nervous about something, so there's definitely an emotional component at least for some people.

7. Coffee and cigarettes
I had a supervisor once who always reeked of that combination. I'd cringe every time she came to my cube to talk.
