CRAWFORD — You might expect a guy like Mike Sutton to oppose the war in Iraq.
From his past-the-shoulder hair to his coarse weave M.C. Hammer pants, the middle-aged hipster has dissent written all over him.
But what’s written all over his car distinguishes Sutton from the average visitor to the Crawford Peace House: 1,842 names of men and women killed in the war cover his 1996 Mitsubishi Diamata sedan.
It is a project that has grown with his opposition to the war.
At first he covered the car in bumper stickers, but he didn’t feel that the message was getting across.
“I started out just putting the names of Texans on there,” the Denton resident said. From there he said he added the dead of Coalition Forces, then Iraqi civilians.
He said he adds names daily based on internet research, or did until his computer crashed last week. So far he has 1,167 Coalition dead and 675 Iraqis.
The oldest is 55; the youngest 21.
