I just got the new Bjork album, ask me anything...
Edited on Thu Sep-30-04 05:49 PM by hiphopnation23
It's ... well let's just say it's vintage Bjork. It's an album almost entirely of "vocal experiments". But, true to form, a lot of the tracks are very singable. She also employs the services of Rahzel from The Roots and Mike Patton of Mr. Bungle fame. Also the London Chorous and The Icelandic Choir are featured as well as old production buddy, Mark Bell. It's quite something. For die-hard fans will eat it up and fully support her charting new territory, yet again. After all, we've come to expect it of her. Most will never be as musically adventorous as she demands her listeners to be. For my part, the love affair continues...:loveya:

1. Bjork's a cutie.
I don't dig the album as much as I did Homogenic or Post though. Plus I really loathe Mike Patton.

5. What did you think of
Vespertine? I loved that album as much as I did Post. I never fully warmed up to Homogenic though I love some of the tracks the album didn't have the continuity and flow that Post, Debut, and Vespertine had, IMO.

9. I haven't heard Vespertine.
The ones I have around are Debut, Post, Homogenic, and the new one.

10. Check out Vespertine.
She seemed to be trying to get back to some of her elctronica/acoustic roots (whatever that means). If you enjoy her first two albums I think you'll dig it. Staggeringly beautiful songs all very singable.

6. Loving "Where is the Line"
and Mouth's Cradle. Can't say that I've memorized which track is which yet. Just got it and it's been on continual rotate here at work. I'm letting it sink in slowly. But it's amazing, I didn't even know that Rahzel was on the record and I recognized him as soon as I heard the track. It's pretty bitchen'!

3. I love Bjork's crazy ass.
Seriously, she's one of the few artists out there that deserves the title. She's also one of the few that I'll run out and buy anything with her name on it (unfortunately current finances dictate I'll be waiting a little while for Medulla).

Is the song she sang at the Olympics on it? And which if any of her previous albums would you most compare this one to?

4. yep, Oceania is there...
it is the most "normal" song in the album. It really can't be compared to her previous albums, it is totally different but yet very Bjorkesque.

7. That's the best way to describe her stuff, isnt it?
Totally different yet very Bjorkesque. Hehe.

I really wanted to hear Oceania because stupid Bob Costas and Katie Couric insisted on talking over her performance during the Opening Ceremony and I couldn't even hear the song. :(

8. I'll echo arcos' sentiments below.

True to her form, it seems she doesn't consciously try to steer herself from what she's done in the past but rather follows a forward trajectory (progress) and what you end up with (if you're a real artist, as you point out) is something true and unique from everything you've done previously. This premise applies here. I can't compare it to any of her albums though it follows on the heals and thus the same general timbre of "Vespertine" in that the tracks seem introspective, and, generally, more mellow than some of her earlier work on Homogenic, Post, and Debut. She loves her die hard fans and they her and she knows that she can dig very, very deep into her psyche and creative spirit and that whatever comes up those that love her will voraciously gobble up.

The music on this album is nothing short of beautiful, once again.

ps I had to stretch the budget to order from Amazon (used for $11) so I know where you're at.

13. I kind of know the throat singer whose voice is on Ancestors

Tanya Tagaq Gillis. She from Cambridge Bay and an amazing artist. I shot some video footage for her a few years ago, I knew she would go on to big things. She tours with Bjork. She is/will become an 'IT' girl for other artists to collaborate with.
