Friday Night Lights the movie

I kind of want to see this movie, but I'm really afraid to.

Friday Night Lights was an excellent book that gave an unvarnished look at the psyche of a blue collar town, where the people didn't have much to look forward to in life, and what a magnified role the "cult of the athlete" took on because of it.

I'm so afraid that they turned it into sappy, feel-good Hollywood drek, a la Remember the Titans.

Has anyone else read the book?

1. I loved the book!

I own a copy of it and usually read it every year before the high school football season starts.

I am a sports writer for a newspaper here in CT and I cover a lot of HS sports, especially football.

As a matter of fact, my high shcool, which has the most state football titles in CT and reminded me a lot of that school and town in the book was actually on the short list of towns the author was going to use for the book.
