Convicted Church Arsonist Now An Ordained Minister
PRAISE JEEBUS!

<snip>

INDEPENDENCE - Jayme "Dusty" Murphy is a convicted church arsonist who once walked into a service wearing a miniskirt with black-lacquer fingernails, purple dreadlocks and nine piercings.

But today, the Community Pentecostal Church of God will welcome him as the congregation's newest ordained minister.

It will be the latest transformation for the 23-year-old Florence resident who, claiming Satan made him do it, tried to torch Fairview Christian Church near Williamstown on Halloween night 1998. Since then, Murphy has gone from being written off as a schizophrenic who needed to be medicated and institutionalized to a husband, a doting father of two and an inspiring Gospel singer.

"He was into Satanism something feverish," says Aaron Levering, 28, of Tuttle, Okla., the former pastor of Fairview Christian. "But that night, trying to burn my church down, set off a chain of events that led him to Jesus.

Satan Plays Major Role in Yates Murder Trial

By Steven Long
Agence France-Presse
Houston, Texas, Mar. 9--(AFP) Satan has figured as a key player in the capital murder trial of a Texas mother accused of drowning her five children in the family bathtub, as the second week of testimony continued Saturday.

Andrea Yates, 37, could face the death penalty if her plea of insanity is rejected on the three charges of first degree murder brought against her for the June 20, 2001 drowning, one-by-one, of her children Noah, 7, John, 5, Paul, 3, Luke, 2, and Mary, aged six months. Two charges are still pending.

Friday's testimony featured some of the most horrifying testimony yet--a videotaped interview between Doctor Park Dietz and Yates shortly after the murders. "I'm inclined to believe her. I believe she is trying to be forthcoming. At the same time, I have to be skeptical. That is my job," Dietz said, referring to Yates' belief - told to psychiatrists - that she was saving her children from Satan. "I'd expect her to try to comfort the children, telling them they're going to be with Jesus or going to be with God. But she does not offer words of comfort."
