Maybe he doesn't count because he went on to be the reigning Verdi baritone of our day and I guess you mean classically-trained who didn't go on to classical music.

I heard her sing "Battle Hymm of the Republic" at the first Clinton inauguaral concert. We got places up front because I was a volunteer. There wasn't a dry eye on the Lincoln Memorial that day. I hope to hear her sing it again this January!

Just check out his disco release of Sheckleman's Swan Discourse in B minor with the Cleveland Banjo Ensamble. What do i have to dig out my classical records NOW ???? this list could get endless.......
