This World Series will be good, and good for baseball
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 08:56 AM by WilliamPitt
Two historic franchises who have met before, in 1946 and again in 1967.

Two fan bases who are starved for victory. The Cardinals haven't won it all in years, and the Sox...well...you know that story. Both teams have absolutely devoted fans who will hang on every single pitch.

The Cardinals led the National League in offense. The Red Sox led the American League in offense.

The Cardinals have Pujols, Edmonds and Rolen. The Sox have Manny and Ortiz.

The Cardinals play excellent NL defense and small-ball, but can hang runs up in bunches. The Red Sox bring AL bat thunder, along with uncharachteristic speed, and a guy named Schilling.

We get to see Pedro Martinez and Derek Lowe swing the bat.

'Nuff said.

Whatever happens, this will be a great series. I already have my own pet nickname for it.

The Red Mass.

We almost had the Cubs and the Tigers in '84 -- now THAT would've been cool.

4. I'm with you Will, this will be a great series
Two great classy teams, lots of emotions on both side, in a couple lovely parks. I think that it will probably go seven games, but the Cards will win in the end:evilgrin:

But man, it's going to suck in Fenway if your mayor invokes the no alcohol due to rioting rule. I think that will cause more problems that it solves.

But here's to a great glorious World Series, no matter who wins:toast:

That said, GO CARDINALS!

6. GO RED SOX BEAT THE CARDS
I root for the Red Sox of the West Coast aka The Giants. Owned by a Red Sox fan, Peter Magowan, who went to prep school with Peter Gammons.
The only team the Gigantes fans hate more than the Dodgers are the Cards. Still pissed about 1987 NLCS.

8. the card's defensive stars..
they have like 4 Gold Glove recipients on their squad. Edmonds' diving catch last night was just ill. How the Angels ever let him go is a mystery. Also, Tony LaRussa is one of the smartest minds in the game. That suicide squeeze last night was just brilliant. You never see that kind of strategy played out in the AL. You think Francona is taking some heat now about managing the pitchers? Wait until he has to decide whether to pull Schill for a pinch hitter. GO NATIONAL LEAGUE!!

18. This Angels fan is rooting for the Sox...
I have had a small glimpse into the kind of suffering that only true fans can experience.

But it only took the Angels 42 seasons to get into a WS, and to win it. Relatively speaking, I've gotten off easy. Even if it was the Red Sox that derailed the Angels in the '86 playoffs, who were one - ONE - strike away from going to the WS. But that's almost forgotten.

All I can say is, Go Sox! :bounce:
