Sleep well, my sweet boy... (cat thread)
Edited on Fri Oct-22-04 07:43 PM by oxymoron
I just returned from putting my loving friend Boo to sleep. He has been with me for 9 years, and I will miss him terribly. He was special. Another member posted this on the death of his dog (I'm sorry, I can't remember who). I thought it was so touching, I hope you don't mind that I altered it a bit for my dear Boo...

My sweetest, best friend.

My hands will hunger for the feel of your coat,

My ears will listen for your purr while you nuzzled my face every morning,

My eyes will search for the grace and beauty of your form and movement,

My heart will ache to turn to you for the comfort you gave me,

For as long as I live.

Sleep well, my sweet boy...

3. Oh, I am so, so sorry on the loss of your cat
I had to put one of my babies to sleep on 12/23/98. I still remember it and still cry about it.

Your Boo looks so handsome in that picture. I know that you will miss your baby. Peace to Boo and love and sympathy to you.

Your good friend Boo is gone so suddenly. I know your loss is very difficult to bear right now. The cross-species bond is remarkably strong, and it's so painful when it's broken.

Boo may be gone, but, in his own way, he will come back to you often -- so keep his loving memory close to you always.

Thank you for giving Boo such a loving, safe home -- these little guys are such treasures; they come and they go, but they mark our hearts indelibly.

My best to you --

20. I'm Heartbroken For You...
and I'd give you a hug if I were there. I know how much I love our Mitzi, and I can only begin to imagine the great sense of loss you're feeling. I don't know if I'd have the courage to confront and make the difficult decision you were faced with today.

Our companion animals are beloved members of our families and they mean so much more to us than many people realize. Boo was very lucky to have you to care for him as much as you did. You were both lucky to have each other.

I hope you can find comfort in knowing that you made the right decision and that you'll find strength from your family and friends and loved ones. I'll be thinking of you tonight and in the days ahead.

Am betting you have a new guardian angle now. So hard to get used to their absence. They leave such a big hole in your life and your heart when they leave.

Sending you strength and understanding. Hoping you find a way to understand the love does not perish just because the vessel wears out.

I will ask sweet Havoc to look out for Boo.

When I lost my sweet Deva - a 16 year old sheltie, last spring. I posted here about it, not being able to even talk to anyone close to me. I felt kind of stupid about posting here, but the responses I got were so overwhelmingly sweet and comforting I was so glad I did.

I hope you find the same comfort here. My heart is with you. What a great picture of Boo, a wonderful, wise sweet soul he seems. You will see him again at the rainbow bridge, if not before in your dreams sweetie. He was lucky to have you.

32. So sad.
When I lost my 18 yr old Maine Coon - I really loved this poem

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

....now joining with so many of our beloved companions on the other side. My calico Figgy is surely welcoming him to the new home; she was very sociable and cordial and passed just last month. And my dear old tabby Chester will be thinking of some fun play to cheer everyone. That's really the only way I can think of them now. In a place where there's no pain, no fear.

41. So sorry to hear of your loss...
What a beautiful ginger guy. And that white bib and big paws. Truly a lovely, lovely boy. I'm sad to hear you lost him.

I lost my sweet grey girl Alice last year from the same thing. I didn't realize until too late that she had diabetes. She spent almost a week in veterinary ICU, but we still lost her.

Since then, I've made a habit of weighing my cats on a baby scale at least once a month, sometimes as often as once a week. It's a good thing, too. One of my cats is in the very early stages of chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and we spotted it because I noticed she'd lost weight. Another of my cats is having liver trouble, and I'm hoping that we've caught it early, because we saw she'd lost weight, as well.

So often, cats hide illness. Weight loss is one of the most objective signs of potential trouble. Of course, my cats think I'm nuts for making them stand still on that chilly metal tray, and they get annoyed when, after they've finally gotten comfortable on the scale, I nudge them to step down.

I am so very sorry, and my thoughts are with you. I also lost my beloved cat, Rhiannon, who was also an exceptional little being. She meant so much to me and I still miss her so much. Your poem ripped my heart out. It totally cut to the heart of things and I totally understand your pain. I was a mess for a good six months after losing my cat, and I still acutely miss my Rhiannon, who I lost in September of 2001, another tragedy, for me.;(

69. your baby is beautiful. What a shiny coat and beautiful face. I know,
I know, I know.... I lost my cat Boy on 10/11/03 and there is not a day that goes by where I do not grieve his death. He was only 8 and had pancreatic cancer. I wrote out this big long thing on all the special things about him, like he would "ski" on the snow. He would start running in the snow and then slide and then look up at me each time, like: mommy, see what I just did. ANd then he would do it again and again looking up at me each time. If I talked too loudly, he would tap his "index finger" toe ever so gently on my lips and put his nose next to mine, like why are you yelling.

77. I am so sorry! He sounds like he was also an exceptional little being
There was a pet loss thread in The Meeting Room and I poured out my heart in it, as well, crying the whole time. I'm not much of a crier, but losing my Rhiannon was more than I could stand.;(

When my uncle died, his unpleasant wife got rid of his animals and nobody would take his two cats, so I did. I knew the other one and she was a nice cat, but rather reclusive. All I could learn about my bonus cat was that "it" was "friendly." What an understatement! As soon as she made her delicate little leap out of her carrier, and into my heart, after a long ride, I realized my good fortune. The poor other kitty hid behind the couch. Rhiannon escaped from the room where I had sequestered them to decompress and immediately made friends with my cocker spaniel.:-)

When she got sick, I told my vet that I would do anything, like he didn't know that already. He sent me to this wonderful clinic, about 40 minutes away, where she was treated with acupuncture, weekly. I will never forget her first visit. There was another cat, that was being given a shot, and it took three women to subdue him. My Rhiannon was on the next table, with all these acupuncture needles sticking out, sound asleep. The vet said that he was able to do things with her that he had never been able to do with a cat before.:-)

But, it eventually turned out that she also had cancer. Despite everything, I lost her. She was only seven. I had hoped to have her for 20 years.;(

I am so sorry for your loss, as well. I will never understand why these things happen. I know that there are other cats in need of homes, and I rescued another one, myself, several months later. But Rhiannon was exceptional, as your boy was, and I know what I had and will never forget her.;(

65. May I add my condolences
I had to make that choice, too. As Dutchess was going, I told her to go where it was always summer. I'm sure she is with my mother & they're waiting for me. It's a wonderful thought knowing I have those spirits there. Blessings & peace. He was a special boy.

73. Sorry to hear of your loss, just know that while no other cat can take
his place there are lots of loving cats who need a friend and family like yours.

Please consider adopting another cat in your friends honor.

74. Boo was a lucky boy
Grieve not,
nor think of me with tears
But laugh
and talk to me as if I were beside you.
I loved you so . . .
'Twas Heaven here with you

79. Just remember the good times
And the love that Boo gave you.

I'm so sorry. I had to do that with my cat, Spot, two years ago. It still makes me sad.

Keep in mind that you gave Boo a good home and that he returned the love you gave him in kind.

Hang in there.

He looks exactly like my lovely Lucky who died in Feb.-- Boo also has the same mix of sweetie-boy and mischief-maker in his eyes.

To have have found someone who loved him so much. I am so sorry. I lost my beloved Rhiannon in 2001 and have yet to heal. I wish you comfort in knowing that you did everything that you did for your beloved boy. The poem that you wrote is a beautiful testament. Few cats are as loved as yours...;(

86. I'm so sorry for your loss
I know just how it feels; I lost my Beloved 15 year old PeeWee last year, and my 17 year old Jasper this year.

Boo was a very lucky kitty to have such a wonderful "fur parent"; it's obvious that you were good for each other.

It's one of the cruelest facts of life: that our fur kids can't live as long as we do.

May you meet again someday on the Rainbow bridge.

You say he was special, and it must be true - it shines from his face.

When our pets are like children to us, it feels so cruel that they can't stay with us longer. I'm sorry this sadness had to come your way.
