"To Kill A Mockingbird" starting now on TCM
Reminds us all that one can be right without "winning."

John Kerry, like Atticus Finch, doesn't believe in doing what's merely expedient. And Finch knows one can learn a life lesson from the unlikeliest of places -- as when Scout breaks up the lynch mob.

What a glorious film.

2. Weren't they going to have Orrin Hatch do the intro to the movie tonight?
I wonder what Gregory Peck would have thought of that?

7. Hatch did the intro
and he was remarkably well-spoken on the subject. But, he hoped viewers wouldn't be turned off because it's in b-l-a-c-k and w-h-i-t-e. :sigh:

Wasn't that the point?

3. Pure cinematic poetry
First film I ever saw (I was probably about 12) and it both entranced and scared the living daylight out of me. Saw it again another 10 years later and I was emotionally devastated by it. Now I just marvel at the performances, and, increasingly, the soundtrack.

My daughter's 8 years old; the DVD is on the shelf so she and I can watch it together when she's a few years older. I can't wait.

4. I'd watch if Malloy wasn't on
I love that movie.. Maybe I should just watch the picture while listening to the radio. The "ham" scene always makes me giggle.

8. As long as I live, when I hear Gregory Peck's name...
...I will see him as Atticus Finch, glasses and all.

Just one role out of a long, impressive career - but the performance of a lifetime.

I rented this for my kids when they were younger...at first they were distressed that the film was in black and white, but they were mesmerized within 10 minutes...

10. When the AFI had their 100 greatest movies...
...and wanted the 100 greatest lines, I sent in:

"Miss Jean Louise, stand up. Your father's passin'."

11. I love that movie
There was a countdown-style TV special a while ago (a year? two?) of the greatest movie heroes. Number one was Atticus Finch.

14. It's a good autumn movie, too.
The film ends on a windy fall night, with the wind blowing the leaves, and mischief afoot. "Hey, Boo."

15. It least we have something to be proud of in Alabama...
What a great movie; certainly one of the very best.

And it is a sin to kill a mockingbird! I love them and they've been singing their hearts out the past couple of weeks.
