I have not stopped crying since I got up this morning...
tomorrow I know that will have some fight in me again, but right now I am mourning my country. My eyes are nearly swollen shut, I can't eat, I can't think, I can't function. Thank god that DU is shut down from the outside right now, so that I can say this.

And THANK YOU Skinner for DU. Without it I would be even more depressed. Tomorrow I look for a new job and a new life and get myself as far away as possible from this red state.

7. You go, girl.
We're evaluating our possibilities and planning to do the same. I don't care how many 'oh, maybe we should all move to red states' posts I see, the hatred -- calling it something as ambiguous as 'homophobia' doesn't do it justice -- that's been proved by my fellow citizens of Ohio has, as Erica Jong said, 'blackened the windows of my soul.' If I continue to live here, it's going to wreck me.

And yeah -- I thank DU, too. At least I know for the most part, everybody here shares the majority of my values. I won't be told they're wrong. This may be the only place I can go and be sure of that.

8. I barely got my daughter to school. She still has knots in her hair.
I didn't even put socks on the kid. I can't move. I really feel like someone has died. I think I will go back to smoking. I will probably legal all over again and I'm sure that the Bushies will have the clout now to make the doctors to declare it safe. SO what if I have asthma from the increased pollution. It really feels like the end of the world. I have never felt this way before.

Someone has died, you're right, that's how it feels...
but this death affects so many millions of people that is far worse than any individual death.

13. My daughter was late this morning ...
If I didn't know everyone in the office really well I would have put down "death of a country" as the reason she was late. I overslept from being up late last night to watch the destruction.

16. I'm at work, so can't cry...
but I've been fighting it off (sometimes not so valiantly) all morning. I too, am mourning the loss of my country. Also the loss of nearly all of my wide-eyed optimism. I'm furious with Kerry, distraught by the popular vote, and fighting mad at Bush. As with you, I will get to a point where this becomes a productive, fighting anger, but I'm not there yet.

17. I'm so sorry...
I'm just angry. I can't stop thinking about the Supreme Court, and all I can feel is anger at the party for not making those election machines more of an issue.

I'm so thankful for this site... without it I would be a basket case right now.

27. The Supreme Court AND...
all those circuit judges he has the chance to put in place.

The AG's office has been salivating over the chance to break up the the 11th circuit because it consistantly has some of the most progressive rulings.

If the circuit courts are loaded with Wingers cases won't move beyond them to the SC.

18. I'm just numb.
I had a job interview this morning and had to be focused. This place is my sancuary because I know you all understand. Last time, I felt so alone and it was even worse.
I'm glad we're all here and we have each other. :grouphug:

19. Mourning with you.
I voted for the first time in 1972. All summer, we'd read about Watergate and nefarious goings-on in the Nixon administration. Vietnam was raging. The economy was in the tank. Civil liberties were being eroded. I just knew George McGovern was going to win.

Since then, I've watched in disbelief while the U.S. has marched down a dark and self-destructive path, punctuated here and there by a tentative spark of light, but ultimately extinguishing its own illumination, like good little Cub Scouts over an abandoned campfire.

My son voted for the first time yesterday. He just knew John Kerry was going to win.

21. When my mother died 14 years ago, I felt a huge amount of grief
At least I had expected her passing for many years, and each year she survived was a gift. I did not expect to lose my country, and witness the wholesale approval of the inevitability of thousands more Americans losing their lives, losing their faith, losing their integrity, losing everything for the greed of a few... gut wrenching sadness, yes.

26. I have felt really stressed for the last few days
I have been canvassing for Move-on here in Pa every weekend for the last several weeks, and I feel that we did well... we kept PA blue and there were at least 10 % new voters. I do not understand though, why other states that canvassers worked so hard in, like Ohio, Michigan and WI were so close. I expected many more votes for Kerry than this - I guess I expected them to go for Kerry the way we in PA. did.

Although I am very upset ( I cannot believe that a majority of US citizens want 4 more years of what we have had), I am proud that we worked so hard here in Pa and in other states. I hope the Ohio count will turn out well. SO I am upset, but still a bit hopeful. ( but that is the way I am, I guess)
