I'm thinking of moving to the back-woods of Mississippi
and opening a juke-joint. We'll all sing lowdown, dirty songs, drink moonshine, and party till dawn every day of the week.

My husband thinks this idea is frivilous and silly.

Who is right?

1. You might have to see a dentist first.
As I understand it, they have a "maximum tooth limit".

5. Those people have no idea what's going on...
They're mostly ignorant and VERY VERY HAPPY...I highly recommend it. I have actually thought about seriously becoming unknowledgable about current events again, because I want to be happy too. I think you should do it. And if nothing else, everyone will admire your smile, and probably ask you for dental advice. hehehe

8. There's a book you might want to check out first
Edited on Tue Nov-09-04 11:54 AM by Rowdyboy
"Juke Joint" by Birney Imes. Fabulous photography and a really fascinating story. The few that remain are primarily in heavily black communities in the Mississippi delta, but with the arrival of the casinos in north Mississippi even those few are fading out fast.

Legalizing liquor back in the 1960's really hit the juke points hard. No more call for moonshine made drinking more socially acceptable. Now what passes for "juke joints" are usually just dives where you're more likely to see crack being sold, than to hear the blues.

17. Now there's an idea!
Let me know when you open.....

Seriously, though, if you can find a copy of that book in the library, it has some really amazing photographs that would blow you away.

9. He is.
You'll be eaten alive by water moccasins. Not only that, the heat in summer will peel your hide off...

14. They'd better be low tops in Mississippi in summer
Between the heat and humidity of a delta summer, the real deal will have your toes up for jungle rot case of the year.

15. I'll meet you in Louisiana
and we'll start a joint jukejoint venture.

Why do I think we'll have trouble getting a business loan?
