Sound of Sinners
A little humor for our red state bible thumping Americans courtesy of Mick Jones and Joe Strummer

"As the floods of God
Wash away sin city
They say it was written
In the page of the Lord
But I was looking
For that great jazz note
That destroyed
The walls of Jericho
The winds of fear
Whip away the sickness
The messages on the tablet
Was Valium
"As the planets form
That golden cross Lord
I'll see you on
The Holy Cross Roads
After all this time
To believe in Jesus
After all those drugs
I thought I was Him
After all my lying
And a-crying
And my suffering
I ain't good enough
I ain't clean enough
To be Him
The tribal wars
Burning up the homeland
The fuel of evil
Is raining from the sky
The sea of lava
Flowing down the mountain
The time will sweep
Us sinners by
Holy rollers roll
Give generously now
Pass the hubcap please
Thank you Lord"

15. White Man in Hammersmith Palais and Spanish Bombs are my favorites
MIDNIGHT TO SIX MAN
FOR THE FIRST TIME FROM JAMAICA
DILLINGER AND LEROY SMART
DELROY WILSON, THE COOL OPERATOR

KEN BOOTHE FOR U.K. POP REGGAE
WITH BACKING BANDS SOUND SYSTEMS
AND IF THEY'VE GOT ANYTHING TO SAY
THERE'S MANY BLACK EARS HERE TO LISTEN!

OH BUT IT WAS FOUR TOPS ALL NIGHT
WITH ENCORES FROM STAGE RIGHT
CHARGING FROM THE BASS - KNIVES TO THE TREBLE
BUT ONSTAGE THEY AIN'T GOT NO ROOTS ROCK REBEL
ONSTAGE THEY AIN'T GOT NO...ROOTS ROCK REBEL

DRESS BACK, JUMP BACK
THIS IS A BLUEBEAT ATTACK

'COS IT WON'T GET YOU ANYWHERE
FOOLING WITH YOUR GUNS
THE BRITISH ARMY IS WAITING OUT THERE
AN' IT WEIGHS FIFTEEN HUNDRED TONS

WHITE YOUTH, BLACK YOUTH
BETTER FIND ANOTHER SOLUTION
WHY NOT PHONE UP ROBIN HOOD
AND ASK HIM FOR SOME WEALTH DISTRIBUTION

PUNK ROCKERS IN THE U.K.
THEY WON'T NOTICE ANYWAY
THEY'RE ALL TOO BUSY FIGHTING
FOR A GOOD PLACE UNDER THE LIGHTING

THE NEW GROUPS ARE NOT CONCERNED
WITH WHAT THERE IS TO BE LEARNED
THEY GOT BURTON SUITS, HA YOU THINK IT'S FUNNY
TURNING REBELLION INTO MONEY

ALL OVER PEOPLE CHANGING THEIR VOTES
ALONG WITH THEIR OVERCOATS
IF ADOLF HITLER FLEW IN TODAY
THEY'D SEND A LIMOUSINE ANYWAY

I'M THE ALL-NIGHT DRUG-PROWLING WOLF
WHO LOOKS SO SICK IN THE SUN
I'M THE WHITE MAN IN THE PALAIS
JUST LOOKIN' FOR FUN

OH PLEASE MISTA, JUST LEAVE ME ALONE
I'M ONLY
LOOKING FOR FUN

SPANISH BOMBS

Spanish songs in Andalucia
The shooting sites in the days of '39
Oh, please, leave the vendanna open
Fredrico Lorca is dead and gone
Bullet holes in the cemetery walls
The black cars of the Guardia Civil
Spanish bombs on the Costa Rica
I'm flying in a DC 10 tonight

CHORUS
Spanish bombs, yot' quierro y finito
Yote querda, oh ma corazon
Spanish bombs, yot' quierro y finito
Yote querda, oh ma corazon

Spanish weeks in my disco casino
The freedom fighters died upon the hill
They sang the red flag
They wore the black one
But after they died it was Mockingbird Hill
Back home the buses went up in flashes
The Irish tomb was drenched in blood
Spanish bombs shatter the hotels
My senorita's rose was nipped in the bud

CHORUS

The hillsides ring with Free the people
Or can I hear the echo from the days of '39?
With trenches full of poets
The ragged army, fixin' bayonets to fight the other line
Spanish bombs rock the province
I'm hearing music from another time
Spanish bombs on the Costa Brava
I'm flying in on a DC 10 tonight
Spanish songs in Andalucia, Mandolina, oh ma corazon
SPanish songs in Granada, oh ma corazon

16. The "where are the drugs" post has me singing that one
line over and over again:

I'M THE ALL-NIGHT DRUG-PROWLING WOLF
WHO LOOKS SO SICK IN THE SUN
I'M THE WHITE MAN IN THE PALAIS
JUST LOOKIN' FOR FUN

However, I must admit that the events of these past weeks has my new mantra as:

IF ADOLF HITLER WERE HERE TODAY
THEY'D SEND A LIMOUSINE ANYWAY

(god that sounds like Bush right here, right now!)

9. And, are you aware that your last name is the same as that of
the only band that really matters?

Sorry - I just couldn't resist :7

6. I think mine is Hate & War (usually it's Broadway, but not this week)
(Strummer/Jones)

Hate and war - the only things we got today

An' if I close my eyes
They will not go away
You have to deal with it
It is the currency

Hate...hate...hate...

The hate of a nation
A million miles from home
An' get war from the junkies
Who don't like my form

I'm gonna stay in the city
Even when the house fall down
I don't dream of a holiday
When hate an' war come around

7. Actually, this has always spoken to me.
THE CLASH

"The Street Parade"

When I was waiting for your phonecall
The one that never came
Like a man about to burst
I was dying of thirst

Though I will never fade
Or get lost in this daze
Though I will disappear
Into the street parade

It's not too hard to cry
In these crying times
I'll take a broken heart
And take it home in parts
But I will never fade

I was in this place
By the first church of the city
I saw tears on the face
The face of a visionary

Though I will disappear
To join the street parade
Disappear and fade
Into the street parade

:hi:

But I love them all.

8. All? All? C'mon, even I admit Protex Blue wasn't the
greatest song ever written - very SBP like, but not very good. Oh and "Groovy Times" i could do without. But, you're right - for as prolific a writer as Joe was, most were actually pretty decent. :hi:

10. and they new the right stuff to cover-and how to cover it!
Mose Allison - Look Here

Look here, what you think you gon' be doin' next year
No lie, how you know you not gon' up and die
No doubt, soon enough your friends will find you out
Take care you know you might not have much time to spare

I say, how long have you acted up this way
What know, when you gonna get your own floor show
I'm hip, you could use a button on your lip
Look here, what you think you gon' be doin' next year

another fave. That word gets thrown around quite freely when I discuss The Clash. Even though this is Mose Allison

Plus a song about condoms-I still find it catchy, that 'Protex Blue' :P
