10. Hey, Don't Be Hatin' On Estaban

Actually, on our recommendation, a friend bought his son one of Estaban's guitars. It's surprisingly good quality for a $100 guitar, especially considering the lessons, the gig bag, and so on.

It won't last 10 years or anything, but by then, if the kid is still with it, he'll want something better anyway. (Trust me, i know how guitar players think. I've got 9 and i still want more.) If he bores with it soon, (he's 12), then they can garage sale it for $25 and only pay a $75 experiment fee for their only son.

The infomercials are a hoot, too! It's all so serious. He really can't play that well, but the kitsch value is worth watching them.

My friends and i (all musicians) love Estaban. So, you just watch how you refer to our hero. Estaban is A-OK.

13. It may seem like humorous kitsch to Americans...

...but Zamfir's panflute playing is the traditional folk music of Romania.

My folks are ethnic Hungarians from a region that is now part of Romania and as a child I remember them giving a vaguely disapproving vibe whenever Zamfir's commercial came on (the Hungarians and Romanians have some bad blood between them).
