i got the new ECW dvd
and i watched disc 1 - damn good. it was offensive (not to me, but to the "moral vaLues" crowd) but not as bLoody as i hoped... aLthough i haven't watched disc 2.

highLight: "the crucifixtion".

they thought it wouLd a great idea to crucify one of the wrestLers in the ring (compLete with crown of barbed wire). i thought it was briLLiant in a bLasphemous kinda way, but they Lost some tv deaLs and kurt angLe because of it.

disappointment: did not show footage of "the mass transit incident" (googLe if you don't know it) but did discuss it and how it aLmost finished the company prematureLy.

4. ECW foLded
and vince bought it at some point. many of ECW workers were out of work for 2 years before vince hired them.

tazz Leaving, and the dudLeys Leaving did kiLL them. pauL heyman is/was a genius, but a poor buisiness man.

i know some feds tried to fiLL the void (CZW) but they're crap compared to ECW. aLthough CZW is the most insane bLood Letting i've ever seen it just seems too forced (scissor matches are nauseating; house of LightbuLb matches is over the top gimmicky).

Paul Heyman joined the WWF (I hate the "E") after ECW collapsed
And pretty much brought a lot of talent over with him. Sad, because I never really had the chance to catch ECW in its heyday of the mid-90's.

Wow. Aging myself here. The days of Tommy Rich and Dusty Rhodes, the Von Erichs, when the WWF competed with the NWA and AWA...

Agreed...sigh.

Total Nonstop Action or something like that. He's aged somewhat. Same ole Dusty, though.

After he was let go by WCW. Many bloody matches with Steve Corino. I always hated Steve Corino.

7. ever seen "Stranglemania"?
it is about the only cool thing he insane clown posse has been involved with.

if you have not seen it, it is videos of mostly japanese matches being called by ICP, and it is pretty damn funny.

10. no, but i've read about it
in mick foLey's book.

i got suckered into buying the "king of death match" video... it wasn't even death match tourney, just a bunch of japanese matches - good but not what was advertised.

12. it's definetely worth checking out
some semi fun matches in there, but the dialogue of ICP as announcers is hilarious. they give all the wrestlers made up names and and made up stories and what not. basically they just make up everything as the go along and it is pretty damn funny.

stay away from stranglemania 2 thought, not nearly as funny.

8. EC F'n W!!!!!
New jack used to take the Garbage can to the ring... One time I saw the man Pull a Cheese grater out and start grating his opponent's face... Another time he had a Prostetic leg and was beating someone with it!!! ECW RULED And damnit I miss Joey Styles. Now we have to watch WWE, and deal with Jim Friggin Ross. I can imagine Joey doing some commentary like with say, The Undertaker.... "Oh MY GOD!!! He BURIED the guy!" Yeah, I am a Bit of a Wrestling fan ROFLMAO

9. new jack is awesome
he's in jaiL at the moment (went nuts during a match and stabbed his opponent 14 times with a sickLe) because he can't afford baiL. he's auctioning off phone caLLs from prison (coLLect of course) to raise his baiL money.

there are some web sites with his most brutaL stunts on video. here's one with brutaL bumps in generaL, and new jack makes the List severaL times.

15. what organisation does new jack wrestle with now?
and jeez, about stabbing people with sickles, wow. seems like an organisation would not want to mess with someone like new jack if he is going to stab people.

17. it's not the first time he stabbed someone
if you googLe "mass transit incident" (with quotes) you'LL get some descriptions of it. there's even some very rare video of the event fLoating around.

basicaLLy, a 17 yo kid showed up at a house show with fake id, and a costume cLaiming to be and indy wrestLer. when a worker faiLed to show up, the kid was chosen to take his pLace. just before the match (which was to be the usuaL, bLoody, prop using match) he informed new jack that he'd never done this and that before (hoLding the pretense that he had been in the ring before) and he wasn't comfortabLe "bLading" himseLf and new jack offered to bLade him.

according to who you beLieve, new jack "accidentaLLy" cut through muscLe and arteries and the kid aLmost died.

the kid's name was "mass transit" - he weighed over 400# and eventuaLLy died a few years Later from heaLth woes, aLthough i think his famiLy cLaims depression from the incident hastened his death.

22. hmm it was about 1999 i think?
i know it was before 2000.

the event was in raleigh, North Carolina at a place called The Ritz that usually does medium sized concerts.

what a great time. i didn't bring a weapon, but some guy from the crowd was really getting into it with the duddley boys yelling things at them, they stood toe to toe yelling in each other's faces. it was pretty funny.

i also got balls mahoney's autograph on the ticket.

Tagiri (sp?) was there too.

18. ECW was much better than WWE/WCW.
At least they had the guts to do stuff that you didn't see on the other two brands.

Man, when Taz first entered WWE, I was upset. They didn't use him like they should have.

Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 12:23 AM by Jack Schitt
Mr. Monday night!

I wish the WWE would put the title on him. :( Hell, even Rhyno deserves it. I'd even love to see Taz (yes, one z) win the title.

No chance in Hell with Triple H running the show.

Edited on Thu Nov-18-04 12:37 AM by AngryAmish
jumping off the top rope kicking guys in the face is beyond me. Honestly, those sentons were amazing, especially outside of Philly no one would catch him. But when it is 420, things hurt less.

On edit: RVD will never get a title because he smokes too much.

33. The DVD was sold out everywhere I checked.
Then again, ECW was extremely popular around here. I'm not surprised. I'll have to get it on-line, I guess.

By the way, WWE has a new On Demand video service, which is apparently going to show the ENTIRE run of ECW Hardcore TV!!!

It's not available in most markets yet, but I can't wait till it we get it around here.
