I was watching a special on some odd news channel this weekend about these people. They actually admitted that they used illegal black ops in Laos to train the hmong into natural killers. They made an airstrip and the flew weapons in and out of Laos to contain the N. Vietnamese at their border to prevent a conflict. Hmong regulars could enlist in the US army to gain residency and use their GI bill to start a life here. THIS GUY WAS US ARMY FOR 20 YRS! This guy was probably an op of some sort I feel bad for the people, but something tells me that they shot first messed with the wrong guy I guess. tragic very tragic but yet once again I think we are being somewhat misled by the media.
The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down by Anne Fadiman. The book is about a family's culture clash with the Western medical establishment, but she does digress into some background and touches on this issue. I flew through the book and it's not one I would have normally thought to pick up if a book club hadn't been reading it.

the wrong guy. The news tonight says he is claiming they called him racist slurs and fired 1st. One of the survivors is supposedly the one who fired at him. I don't know if we will ever know the truth.
