Does your SO love music that you HATE?
What is it?

I have to endure Elvis Costello and his wife Diana Crawl or whatever. Poor fractured Atlas, threw himself across the fucking mattress. I could give a fuck. Die already, shithead. Pump It Up was the only song I liked.

My music that she hates:
Ministry, Cop Shoot Cop

12. Uh oh!
Is that you, honey? :D

Well, I at least try not to play Tori in mr. cedahlia's presence. He agrees to subject me to as little death metal as possible, and I agree to subject him to as little Tori as possible. This agreement works out pretty well. :-)

My wife and I listen to mostly the same types of music, Tori is just not one of the bands. Don't get me wrong I can tolerate "cornflake girl" but that is about it.

Did you see the The Alternative show last week on VH1 classic? It had on Al from Ministry and played many of their tunes. It was a repeat from the summer so you may have seen it.

7. Party time!
My So and I are both gay, so anytime music is playing in the house, it sounds like a gay bar! Lots of disco remixes, Madonna, Cher...the stereotypical stuff! :) We also like a different variety, but don't often cross paths with music one likes and the other doesn't. The only thing I don't like is the CD he has that works in his alarm. It is some bizarre New Age crap (and I like New Age music). This CD is AWFUL! It sounds like a cat getting castrated in a dentist office on the beach! IT IS WRETCHED! Other than that... we cool!

9. Yes, namely death metal
He also likes a lot of bands/artists that I don't particularly like, but will tolerate...mostly emo type stuff that just doesn't do anything for me. But I'm cool with that stuff being played in my presence...I can tolerate it even though I find it very blah. But what I cannot tolerate is death metal...it will literally put me in a bad mood. Luckily, mr. cedahlia is a cool guy and is kind enough not to blast it while I'm in the house or in the same car as him.

As far as my tastes go, he hates most of the stuff I'm way into. So he'd probably say that he can't tolerate my Tori and Pearl Jam CDs or my obsession with 80's New Wave bands either! But I am a nice person also, so I try not to subject him to my music much either...although I am known to blast Sirius's First Wave station through our home theater system now and then, which come to think of it, he is actually very tolerant of. He usually just shakes his head and smiles at me as I happily and loudly sing along to the Pet Shop Boys or Duran Duran. Aww, now I'm thinking of what a sweet boy I have, and how mean I am to subject him to that stuff when I know he hates it! He sure must love me a lot! :D

Luckily, we do have some common musical tastes...there's a few bands we both love, and we both are way into oldies (the Four Seasons, Motown, etc.) so we share just enough musical common ground to be able to live with each other...thank god! :-)

10. My husband likes Moby.
I don't always *get* Moby. I'm a very eclectic person, really, and can like most anything. But I'll take Ottmar Liebert and the flamenco guitar over Moby, most times. (Actually--this is really good music--Ottmar Liebert--if you can dig international stuff). And some of Moby's stuff sounds....like duh. He came, he saw, he sampled. Hubby also has some French or something electronica type stuff which does not set my little heart on fire. He has a wide-ranging taste, luckily, and can take all my faves--Metallica, Pearl Jam, U-2--but he hates oldies and soul. I *love* a lot of soul-type stuff. He acquiesced to Marvin Gaye and Al Green (who wouldn't?). But if I sing an oldies' love song riff, he winces a little. But then, he got me to admit I love Sinatra and Dean Martin, so I guess we're musically--mostly-copacetic.

son. I can't stand either. But then again, she would never, ever let me listen to White Zombie, Nine Inch Nails, or Jane's Addiction in the car, so we compromise on The Police, U2, and Jarabe de Palo. It works.

I have a really wide variety of music that I listen to so I'm pretty open......he's very limited, mostly 80s pop/rock. Most of it I can tolerate, but it just gets old....

He has a season pass set on the Tivo for the Vh1 loves the 80s show - how many times does one need to watch those videos?? Yes, occasionally it's fun, but does it warrant a season pass?

29. I have to endure annie lennox
and i loathe her voice, music, videos iow every thing about her. and she is my roommates favorite artist and he will listen to her for hours. and if i complain or ask to hear some of my music he accuses me of being mean and unreasonable. he also will put the entire music list on random which drives me nuts cause a piece of classical music may be followed by anything from annie lenox to one of mine ,Merciful Fate, King Diamond,Ordo Equtum Solis back to yellow,Iron Maiden,Heart followed by ocean waves and so on. this jumping around drives me nuts.

my preferences lean towards Merciful Fate, King Diamond,Ordo Equtum Solis,Iron Maiden,Heart Jean Micheal Jar re just about anything except for country, rap and religious music and of course annie lennox.

31. I had a housemate who played James Taylor day and night.
Always the same album, the one with "Mexico."

Funny thing was that I used to LIKE James Taylor, but since then (this was back in the 1970's) I get hives when I hear James Taylor.

I really loathed that roomate too. He was a complete ass. I can't even remember his name; I've blocked it out, Andrew or something like that.

30. Ugh, Yeah for the most part.
She's into stuff I hate like R.E.M. and INXS and really bad 80's pop songs and some country drek. I tolerate all but the country. But on the other hand both of our children were conceived while AC/DC was playing so it's not all bad. She hates bands that I love too, so it's mutual. The problem for her is I've had the kids on Slayer and Zeppelin since they were babies so she's outvoted on trips.

All of whom I fuckin' HATE.

I'm abig power pop fan, and I love free jazz, and all sorts of other stuff. But yes, her taste in music sends me over the moon.

But we both agree on the Beatles. We used to listen to the Beatles together when we first started going out......and I knew that I could be with her 24 hours a day and not care about her taste in music.

He loves hip-hop/rap.

I listen to progressive metal, classical & opera.

Two very different worlds.

I've tried, I've reallytried, but I just can't get into it.

I'm sorta worried that it's indicative of a larger divide in our respective cultural contexts, something that could really alienate us from one another.

42. Well, with my ex anyway...
We learned to appreciate each other's tastes. I liked girly singer songwriter stuff (like Sarah McLachlan and Natalie Merchant), 80's "sort of" alternative (older REM and U2), and a lot of classic rock and roll and R&B. He liked harder classic 70's rock (Zeppelin, Black Sabbath). We actually grew to like each other's music. Not a problem.
