Edited on Sun Jan-09-05 01:07 AM by norml
A great anti-war film, made in 1957. Starring Kirk Douglas. Directed by Stanley Kubrick. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0050825/

2. What a great movie.
The first time I saw it I stared at the TV screen for 5 minutes after I turned it off trying to make sense of what I just saw. Too bad we don't get TCM in Canada.

5. Christiana Kubrick played the singing German girl.
She was Stanley Kubrick's wife.

4. Be sure to be alert to the final scene.
That was worth my buying the DVD. The anti-war theme, although in accord with my own beliefs, might have been a little overdrawn. But just the recollection of that beer-hall scene, still moves me.

(There are similar scenes in "Spartacus" and "Shoes of the Fisherman" that will live with me forever).
