Part of my kitchen roof is about to cave in
I think its coming from the toilet which had been clogged. We plunged too hard? Anyway, a whole bunch of water is falling from the ceiling and it looks like its gonna cave. Ick.

1. Oh no!!
That happened to my son last month! It was the same thing, problem with the toilet. Except it happened in the middle of the night and they woke up looking down though a hole between the bathroom and the kitchen! (Some day you really will laugh about it)

5. there was a great scene in the movie Delicatessen
where a mime was sitting on the toilet when the floor came down from under him, and he's doing all of this physical comedy stuff hanging in mid-air from a toilet

It was one of the first movies by the Director of 'Amelie'. Highly recommended.

6. I vaguely remember the name. Just watched Amelie the other
day, too. Thanks, I'll look for it.

Seems like there was this one where a bathtub fell a number of floors - think it was a science fiction movie. Maybe First Contact

You need to cut off the water to that bathroom, pronto
Little faucet handles behind the commode, most likely. Or a nearby utility closet.

3. I've had that happen to me!
Not to the point of the ceiling caving in, but water dripping down into the kitchen from the bathroom above. Turned out the seal on the toilet was leaking. All it took was tightening the bolts on the toilet - the ones that hold it down to the floor. Every few months I have to do it again, but it seems to do the trick....

4. Why do some people have so much fun on Saturday night?
Been there, done that....twice!

The first time it was a plaster ceiling - very heavy. I saw it falling in time to get out of the room. I won't even go into the second time.

GOOD LUCK!

7. is this your own property?
Might have to replace flooring.

When we tore out our bathroom during its renovation, we were surprised to see how much floorwork needed replacing. And this is with a house that was formerly owned by a plumbing contractor and who ostensibly would be on top of any leaks. He did a good job of home maintenance in all other respects, so I would guess he did on this, too. I think it's just the nature of the beast that bathrooms have to be watched carefully for any kind of leakage from toilet or shower.

8. You swear :)
No actually, I rent. I'm a college student w/ three other roommates sharing an 1800 a month 2 bedroom apt that has problems all the time. The manager said he'd get the plumber to see it tomorrow.

9. outrageous
I'm also a landlord and 1800 to rent an apartment with a problem like that is appalling.

The landlord will have to call more than a plumber: carpenters, painters, etc.

You have the right to a safe and secure apartment--nearly all states have laws saying that.
