TRAFFIC ALERT!TRAFFIC ALERT!

A boulder some 25 feet high blocks both lanes of the Topanga Caynon Road, Monday, Jan. 10, 2005, as electrical contractors fix broken power and communication lines in Malibu, Calif. No injures where reported, but the road remains closed. The storm system was blamed for at least nine deaths during the weekend in Southern California, including a man killed when his vehicle plunged into the surf off Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, and a homeless man killed when the hillside where his tent was pitched gave way. 6. DAM! what about this?

Water pours out of Devil's Gate Dam into the Arroyo Seco in Pasadena, Calif., Monday, Jan. 10, 2005. Storms in California have dumped several inches of rain continuously for several days. A succession of storms, which have brought heavy snow to parts of Northern California and astonishing amounts of rain to the south, was blamed for the deaths of at least 12 people, turning normally mild Southern California into a giant flood zone. You know sooner or later we are going to find something constructive for him to do. I just saying odds are.

23. Another photo from down the road (YIKES!)

28. Aw, California
Where the hills fall down and it only rains three or four months out of the year - but when it rains, it pours.

I've lived here for six years and I'm finally starting to get used to it but it made me really uncomfortable for the first few years to have NO rain at all between about April and December.

Massive floods and mudslides in the winter, drought and wildfires in the summer. Strange place but very pretty. And the people are nice...
