"we are the ones we've been waiting for."
awsome evangelical on the Daily Show saying that the Christian Right is wrong and saying we should be focusing on poverty, not gay marriage and abortion.

the Christian Left...
In the spirit of the Berrigan brothers of the 60's antiwar movement
He quoted Matthew Ch 25 v35-40:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:

36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.

37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?

38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee?

39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?

40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.

4. yeah, he, and his movement sound great.
all during his interview i kept recalling how my fundy friends were trying to convince me that Christians should be republican and all that. Their heads would probably explode if they had seen that interview.

2. Sojourners: Christians for Justice and Peace
Sojourners, www.sojo.net, is a Christian ministry whose mission is to proclaim and practice the biblical call to integrate spiritual renewal and social justice.

In response to this call, we offer a vision for faith in public life by:

* publishing Sojourners magazine, SojoMail and other resources that address issues of faith, politics, and culture from a biblical perspective;
* preaching, teaching, organizing, and public witness;
* nurturing community by bringing together people from the various traditions and streams of the church;
* hosting an annual program of voluntary service for education, ministry, and discipleship.

In our lives and in our work, we seek to be guided by the biblical principles of justice, mercy, and humility

5. Sojourner's Newsletter - got it today

We're happy to announce that Jim Wallis' new book, God's Politics, launched today with a panel discussion on "Moral Values, Politics, and the Faith Factor" that was moderated by E.J. Panelists included Jim Wallis, Marian Wright Edelman, president of the Children's Defense Fund; Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics & Religious Liberty Commission; and Bryan Hehir, professor at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. John Podesta, president and CEO of the Center for American Progress, gave an introduction before a standing-room-only audience. Read the transcript of the discussion.

7. Please consider posting this info as a stand-alone thread
I'd recommend the General Discussion: Politics or just General Discussion forums, but you make the call.

Jim Wallis has been mentioned in numerous threads here in the past few days, and I think there are a lot of DUers who have been interested in what he has to say. Some of us were familiar with SoJourners and Wallis long before this recent media spotlight on his work, but many were not.

There are obviously many DUers who have been turned off to Christianity for a variety of reasons - including the frightening increase of right-wing religious folks in the political arena in recent years. I'm not looking to convert anyone, but Wallis is an excellent counter-voice for Christianity at this critical time. I think - hope - that a good number of DUers might actually tune in to hear his perspective if given the dates and times of his upcoming media appearances.

6. He was on Washington Journal
(C-SPAN) this morning. I think he confused the RW callers. They had to resort to talk of taxes because he had them on the moral values debate.
