There are plenty of remnants of the Saddam Fedayeen (sp?), foreign fighters, etc, who are working to turn Iraq into a lawless wasteland. I believe the average Iraqi, while he may not trust us, would rather have us in control right now than the radicals who are fighting us.

Although i disagree with our going into Iraq in the first place, I think it is important, now that we ARE there, to restore some modicum of civil infrastructure, a stable economy, and political leadership. We can't leave until we've achieved that, or else can turn it over to somebody who can.

And we're not going to achieve that with Saddam loyalists sniping at and carbombing our troops and contractors, and at members of their own government and police.

I want the Iraqis to get their country back, peaceful and stable, as soon as possible. I want Iraq not to end up like Afghanistan was by 2001, a lawless pit that enabled terrorists.

I would love it if these goals could be accomplished 100% peacefully, without further bloodshed. I don't think that is possible. That is why our troops are now there, and that is why I said what I said.

If you have another suggestion that would leave Iraq as a nation of laws that doesn't require our troops to be there, I'm all ears.
