What would the universe have to do to make it up to you?
For the mistake it made on December 12, 2000?

For me: a cultural revolution that made all this surface shit fade into the background.

1. The Universe owes me big-time!
Election Day 2000, I remember sitting in my car in the school parking lot and writing out a list of promises that I'd keep, if only Al Gore would win. Well, he did win, as we know, but the Universe weaseled out on its end of the bargain - which gave me license to weasel out on my end, too.

So, fast-forward 4 years. I offered one of my Last-Minute Miracles to John Kerry, and he wouldn't take it. Guess he figured I needed it even more than he did. And in a way I did, but ... it still sucks. I would have found another Miracle somewhere. I always do.

What would have to happen, to make it up to me? Dubya going down in defeat and humiliation, complete with a nationally televised psychological breakdown, and taking all his handlers down with him. Every shred of dirt that could possibly be dug up on these people, would be laid bare to the light of day, and the truth turns out to be even more horrifying than we've imagined. The credibility of the Republican Party would be shot for the next three generations. The specter of nuclear war recedes. People become "green consumers." The world resumes its regularly scheduled course of peace and prosperity, which was so rudely interrupted in 2000. Let the sun shine in.

That's what it would take.

3. That's kind of what I mean.
The best I am hoping for is a dissolution of the union. The Bushists can have the doggy-doo pile they made of the once great United States as long as a cultural revolution occurs whereby people of reason and with progressive values and a global consciousness can continue apart. On the surface, the spectacle will feauture talk of war, "homeland security," and "the spread of 'democracy.'" But under it all, I hope, will be islands of sanity where people care for each other and for the fire that they'll have to pass to the next generation of sane people who will rescue the nation from this disease.

4. However, leaving him the red states would still...
...leave his finger on the nuke button. No, he and his ilk have to be completely discredited.

7. They ARE discredited!
Edited on Fri Jan-21-05 01:43 AM by BurtWorm
That's the truly horrific thing! They have no credibility! I have a feeling that even the wingers know something is not right with what they (themselves, as well as the Bushists) have done to the country. They got what they wished for: total control of the government. But even they have got to know that they've cheapened everything they've touched. There's nothing to an idealist like the ideal. Once it becomes real, you can't wish it anymore, and your whole raison d'etre is out the window. But they'll continue pretending that they think everything is beautiful, until the stink is right up their nostrils. Meanwhile, the rest of us know what a heap of nothing this country has become.

2. Let me find someone who is so wonderful
and whom I love so much, and she loved me that much in return. That would make this so much easier to deal with (especially if she loved politics, too)

8. The Universe has a lot of making-up to do...
But the thing I really want is, by definition, impossible; so I'll settle for a nice vacation, after which I will return to my normal dharma.
