My cats are not embracing the "Buy Blue" philosphy!
As you know, I found out that their cat food, Nutro Products, has a CEO who has donated a crapload of money to republicans & George Bush. Therefore Nutro, as healthy as it has made my cats, will no longer be served to them.

Now for dry food I'm switching them to Royal Canin, which is french and has made no donations. Since I have dry food from their old stuff I've mixed the 2 together to not make a big shock to them when they go straight Royal Canin.

However, every morning my 2 furballs want their wet food and I usually split a can of Nutro Products or Pro-Plan (depending on which was on sale). They love them both but they are both RED!!! So I'm trying to switch them to Hill's Science Diet (only made a small donation to Blue). You'd think I was trying to give these two the bubonic plague!

HELP - any suggestions?

BTW - here's the list of Pet Foods and Cat litter:

1. They'll Eat When They're Hungry
although you'll continually hear about it

2. Have you thought about feeding them raw food?
Not only can you support more locally, but it IS the more natural way to go.

Just a thought. Our two dogs are on raw and all the better for it. Our 15-year-old cat, unfortunately, is rather set in his dry kibble ways.

5. They won't take and kind of human food
Abbott may sniff his nose around it but when I tried giving him some he just spit it out. Evita probably would be interested if it was a dead rat or bat I was feeding her.

I'll keep trying

3. Ween them off the wet food for starters
They don't need it. It's a mistake to start cats on wet food anyway as it's so bad for their teeth.

Iams and Science Diet dry are perfectly fine for them. Don't cave in to the begging and pleading and get them off the wet stuff. That is, unless you like kitten breath and tartar eating away at their teeth.

6. My cats eat Iams Hairball Control or Active Maturity
They seem to like Iams just fine, and they've had no problems with urologic problems (or ANY problems) on Iams.

11. Iams contributed $161k to republicans just in 2004
Wasn't touching Iams with a 10foot pole.

Royal Canin's indoor cat food has no ash in it and hairball control. And it's a french own company that has made no political contributions in the US (I checked on both Cobb24 and Open Secrets).

8. Evita is the problem with the wet food
It's the only thing she would eat if I didn't use the wet food to mix in the dry food. They really aren't getting that much - a split small can. But if I put a bunch of dry food in with Evita's wet food then I know she's getting the good stuff.

4. dry food
with either gravy or bacon grease on top with an occasionsl morsel of tuna juice makes my kitties happy-and there are 7 of them. Of course, they are outside kitties, and evidence suggests that they like the mice and voles in the area as much as their kitty food.

7. Cats understand exactly what you are saying
tell them if they don't like what you provide, to feel free to obtain their own. Their little attitudes will change quickly when you open the door and the see all that snow out there. Mine did.

9. Your cats are smart
Science Diet is a crappy food. I say let them eat the Nutro. Since you'll never get the red completly out of your life, a little compromise for the cats is ok in my book. In the long run, you have to keep them healty. And happy.

That is your purpose in life, as they well know.

13. But that's not true- there are choices for Cat Food
Hence the link for Cobb24 in the original post. Cats are funny creatures, if I cave in they'll never learn better eating habits. Abbott probably wouldn't miss the wet cat food but Evita is such a picky eater it's the only way I can get her to eat the dry food if I mix it into her wet food.

10. Hunger works miracles.
I was left in charge of our cat for two weeks early on in our relationship, and I bought on-sale cat food one day; he turned his nose up at it that evening, and again the next morning. By dinner time of the second day--- 36 hours after he had last eaten--- he decided that the on-sale brand was just hunky dory. It's all he eats now.

;)

12. My cat is worse, I have to buy her food at WalMart! Its the only thing I
buy there. But I have to. She has asthma and its the only food that helps keep her attacks away, and WalMart is the only store that carries it. I've tried all the other brands, even special brands from the vet. I bet its missing something that shes allergic to.

I just switched my picky German Shepherd who also has a sensitive stomach to Royal Canin. The only food he liked would give him diarrhea, he's so picky he would literally starve himself until his ribs show. It was bad, but he loves the new Royal Canin for German Shepherds and it doesn't bother his stomach so I'm all happy about that.

The only bad thing my cat like the dog food too, and she's been sneeking it and having more attacks.

Damn defective pets!

14. Is the food a wal-mart brand cat food?
If not, why not see if you can buy it online from one of the pet stores. I'm not sure what Pet Smart's political contributions are, but they give a crapload of money to animal shelters, rescue groups and adoptions centers, so if I'm ok with buying products there. Check their online store and see if they have the food you are looking for

Its called Maximum Nutrition, I looked online for it once and couldn't find it.
