A legislative leader's proposal to put Iowa on year-round daylight-saving time has people talking, but don't expect the idea to become state law any time soon.

-snip-

Sen. Jack Kibbie of Emmetsburg, Democratic co-president of the Senate, would eliminate the time-changing by making Iowa the first state to have daylight-saving time all year long.

-snip-

Any thoughts on this idea?

1. Love it
I've long said we should move to daylight savings, and stay there.

2. Here in Minnesota, we're already getting up in the dark
The sun doesn't rise till shortly before 8AM in December, and if year-round daylight saving were in force, it wouldn't rise till shortly before 9AM. Then the sun would set at 6PM instead of 5PM. Not worth it. I have a hard enough time waking up in the morning when it's barely light at 7:30.

3. Lighter later
so you don't go to work in the dark AND leave work in the dark.

Winter can be difficult enough without being in the cold and the dark all the time.

4. Carter did this in 1973
as a response to the oil crisis. I liked it then.

6. In WI, I'd prefer it
It gets dark too early here in the winter.

8. Maybe we should just
split the difference. Move the clock ahead 1/2 hour year round.

We should go back to the April through September daylight savings time schedule as we used to have.

9. Just pick one or the other
Going back and forth every spring and fall is just a pain in the ass.

11. No! I like standard time!
I love it when it gets dark early and is dark when I go to school in the morning. I've always felt this way. My contrarian streak, I suppose.
