I found DU from a link on Salon or Buzzflash. It was a few months after 9/11 and I was looking for anyone that wasn't a Bushbot. Bush had a 90 percent approval rating and I felt like I was the only one who disapproved. I posted at DU and someone corrected me that * was not the President since he hadn't won. I knew I had found a home.

As many liberals were after the 2000 election farce, I was despondent... especially since the media was so conservative and getting more so over time.

For a few years, I really did nothing and just thought I was the rare liberal in a sea of redness and heard all the crap about Clinton's laxness causing 9/11, etc.

Then, I heard about the Bill O'Reilly's lawsuit against Al Franken. So, naturally, I picked up Al's book and read it and it really opened my mind. There was another liberal out there!

First, I went online and figured there has to be others like me. I first found the O'Reilly Sucks website run by Stewert (who posts on DU under that name as well...) and eventually Stewert pointed me to here, where I have posted almost 5,000 times.

The way I found DU is a rather convoluted story. During the pre-war period, I did quite a bit of protesting. I stumbled into a book store one day, and found a book that consisted of a Scott Ritter interview with a journalist by the name of William Rivers Pitt (sound familiar to anyone?), and in this book was a website where this journalist posted some of his articles. That website is truthout.org.

From there, he posted a link to DU in one of his articles, and a reference in the back of his book. I joined on the first of November, 2003.

I was probably searching on google for anti-Bush material. I was really worried in the lead-up to the Iraq war.

I signed up under the username "thecouga" and donated, but only made 2 or 3 posts. I got so sick of Bush, though, that I decided just to forget about him for a while.

I came back as "JohnnyCougar" because I couldn't remember which e-mail address I had used under my old acount, and the donation star had run out anyway...so I came back during the presidential race when my new roommate got me into DU again! I don't think I will be able to leave this time!

Back around the time of the Florida recounts and selection 2000 I used to visit Bartcop.com on a daily basis. That's when I first heard about DU. Mostly I just read the articles on the homepage, but slowly began to lurk around the discussion boards. DU was always bookmarked on my list of favorites.

from all the phone banking and it was just less than two weeks before this past election. Someone here actually PM'd me and did one of my shifts. It was a fustrating time not to be able to say much. What can I say, I had to talk somehow, I was going to bust.
