Conservative Group Doesn't Like The "Sleaze" On MTV
<snip>

NEW YORK -- Approaching the first anniversary of Janet Jackson's famed wardrobe malfunction, a study released yesterday criticized MTV for the ''incessant sleaze" of steamy programming aimed at young people.

During one week last March, the watchdog Parents Television Council said it counted 3,056 flashes of nudity or sexual situations and 2,881 verbal references to sex.

''MTV has clearly chosen to cater to the lowest common denominator, to offer the cheapest form of programming to entice young boys . . . dangling forbidden fruit before their eyes," said Brent Bozell, PTC president and conservative activist.

MTV labeled the report unfair and said the group ignores the network's public service efforts, like its Emmy-winning ''Choose or Lose" campaign on the presidential election.

An independent analyst said the findings shouldn't come as any surprise to people who watch MTV regularly but would be eye-opening to people who don't -- just like the MTV-produced Super Bowl halftime show did when exposed to a large audience on CBS last year.

''There are a lot of things that most rational parents of 12-year-olds would be uncomfortable with their children consuming," said Robert Thompson, director of the Center for the Study of Popular Television at Syracuse University

7. I'm with you bobbobbins. Imagine if they actually showed videos
by artists that actually had something to say. Then they'd really hate it. If you can get it, Fuse is much, much, much better.

9. Please, MTV is in deeper with record exec's than the payola scam
of the 1960s. MTV used to have it in their contracts that if you wanted your video on MTV, they'd get the exclusive broadcasting rights. That's what killed shows like "Nightflight" on the turner network from competing with them. In other words, restraint of trade.

MTV and VH1 are so full of crap suck ass programming now I don't know how they stay afloat. Sure, I was all over MTV in the 80's when they actually played MUSIC videos, but as I grow older, I hope streaming internet media kills MTV dead.

I don't think I could stand watching another episode of "I love the 90's part deux" or "Making the band."

I'm also pissed at American Idol for not accepting tryouts from people over 30, but that's my own personal ageism grudge. Pardon my french, but F Clay Aiken. I got the pipes mang. Let me sing.

11. Same here
I've gotta give them a lot of credit for Choose or Lose though. It seemed like an honest effort to educate people in a positive way, unlike the majority of their mindless drivel which likely makes people dumber as a result of watching it.

Editorial: TV morals / An activist group learns to work the FCC
Friday, December 10, 2004 Pittsburgh Post-Gazette

Complaints are the currency of the Federal Communications Commission, an agency that insists it does "not watch or listen to programs hoping to catch purveyors of dirty broadcasts." Instead, the FCC takes action against a television program only if it receives a complaint.
A recent estimate from the FCC's Enforcement Bureau suggests that is exactly what's going on: 99.8 percent of the 240,000 complaints in 2003 were filed by the Parents Television Council, a group founded specifically to restore television to being a socially responsible medium. According to the PTC's Web site, the group maintains a database of more than 89,000 hours of television. When it finds suggestive content on television shows, the PTC issues e-mail alerts and enables users to submit complaints directly from its Web site.

My comments:

There is a clear connection between Sun Myung Moon's Unification Church, its related organizations, and L. Brent Bozell, the founder of the Media Research Council and the Parents Television Council. Bozell is a member of the American Freedom Coalition, an organization that has received over five million dollars of Unification Church money.

It is curious how many self-appointed moral watchdogs have very cozy ties to Rev. Moon. Here is just a partial list: Tim and Beverly LaHaye, Paul Crouch, Jerry Falwell, James Kennedy, James Robison, Ralph Reed, Gary Bauer, James Dobson and Phyllis Schlafly.

These oh-so-conservative Christians conveniently overlook the fact that Rev. Moon teaches that he is the "True Parent," chosen by God to complete the failed mission of Jesus Christ, who was crucified before he could take a wife and father a new super-race of human beings free from original sin. Perhaps the True Parent’s very generous donations to their causes helps blunt their concern.

Don’t you feel better knowing that your televion viewing is being influenced by a bunch of hyprocrites?
