So, I have this Excel file on a floppy
and I keep getting errors about redundant cycles or something. I did a repair, and the file now opens...However, Excel tells me that it couldn't fix all of the errors, and some data might be corrupted or lost. No, it's not the disk. Two completely different disks have given me the same message. The file is not on my home computer (hence the need for a floppy). The file opens fine on the computer that it's on. Can somebody tell me :wtf:

1. the floppy drive itself may be going bad..
and it could be writing corrupt data.

2. Other files I had on the same two disks opened fine
It's just this file that's doing it.

9. you can have a bad sector
some of the disk surface area could be bad with out the whole disk being bad. It may just be the area where that file is stored.

But see my other post, Excel files can become corrupted too.

3. A CRC error (cyclical redundancy check) is due to a bad sector on the disk
It's very common with floppies to go bad. Try a few more, or e-mail it yourself or something. Go diskless.

5. I'd love to e-mail it to myself...
Unfortunately, the computer that the file is on has no access to the web (not by my choice, and nothing I can do to change it).

Guess I'll try another floppy tomorrow.

7. Buy a brand new floppy disk. Or, make 5 folders on the floppy and copy 5
copies of the excel file onto the disk. One of them has to end up being good :)

4. Try
Put it on the hard drive and see if it gives the same errors. Or try a CD-R if you have a burner.

6. The hard drive that it's on opens it fine
It won't copy from the floppy to my hard drive without giving me the error, unless I do the repair attempt first.

CD-R is not an option...I wish it was!!!!!!!

8. ummm here is an idea
Excel spreadsheets can become corrupted, try copying the data out of the file and pasting it into a new blank spreadsheet.

But, floppy disks are notoriously weak media and they damage easily. Store copies of you files in more than one place always.
