Back in the saddle again...After 3 weeks.
As you might recall (No! Don't use THAT word!) Ok, remember, then...I was run off the road by feral dogs 3 weeks ago and got up close and personal with some soybean plants.<ouch!> Tore up my right leg and bruised my "sit-on-the-bike" parts..
So yesterday was such a nice day that I bailed from work an hour early and went riding.
15 miles in a little over an hour. That felt good!
Swung back into town just as the sun dipped out of sight.

Combines sailing through the brown fields in clouds of dust, truck-loads of grain sitting by the side of the road, THOUSANDS of those damn "Asian Lady Bugs" or "Mexican Bean Beetles" or whatever they're called bouncing off my glasses and helmet...

Magical...

1. Good for you
I too have been sidelined from riding due to a nasty dog bite. I am hoping to get out today, as we are enjoying an "Indian Summer" here in Chicago. Go Cubs. Get well soon Ronnie.

2. I'm near the Chicago area, too!
I'm cutting out of work early today to enjoy the last vestiges of summer. I'm heading out to the Indiana Dunes area. The leaves are just beginning to turn and it promises to be an incredible day.

BiggJawn, I'm glad you were able to ride yesterday. Sounds like you are feeling better and that's good to hear.

6. Oooh! The Dunes!
That must be a cool ride. when we went to the West Coast (of Michigan) this summer, I was thinking how fun it could have been to have had some ATB action down on the wet part of the beach where the sand is firm.

Maybe next year...
And yes, it felt great, I slept well last night and I feel good today...

5. Oww! How bad did they get you?
I haven't been bit yet, but those soybean stems poked a few holes in me...I'd like to go again today, but I have other committments...maybe this weekend...

8. Pretty bad
This was my loyal and faithful dog that did it too. My hand was pretty torn up. But we have since made up.

3. Some distance riders I know have a way to deal with dawgs.
They carry a kid's water pistol filled with ammonia water. They say it will detour even the most vicious dawgs.

Happy riding!

4. I've heard that too...
or that stuff the postal workers carry, what's it called? "HALT!!!"?

And I knew some real hard-cases that carried Walther PPK's in their jersey pockets...

I saw 3 dogs yesterday. They came 1/2 down their drive way and sat down, not one foot closer....Nice dogs!

7. I'm curious. Do you shave your legs?
Some friends of mine (guys) ride religously and they shave there legs to prevent infections when they fall. And they do fall.

11. Nope.
But then, I'm not that hairy. I shave after I wreck, so the tape doesn't pull when I change the dressings...

10. Back where a friend is a friend.
Where the longhorned cattle feed
On the lowly Jimpson weed,
I'm back in the saddle again.
