I thought you CSPI folks had a thing against sugar.

4. my mom used to use just a bit of sugar - enough to make it awful!
would have been better off with purple food coloring (USDA approved 1961 - banned 1977) and tap water (from local Rouge River :scared:).

Feeling a little dizzy now. But nicely peaceful. Strange noises in left ear. Lighter. Momma! Zzzzzzzzz-bfpht!

7. Hoowee...PURPLE JESUS!
Used to mix that up when I was life guarding in Myrtle Beach waaaay back in the 60s.
Mixed it up in a 1 gallon Coke syrup jug.
3/4 grape juice and 1/4 Everclear Grain Alcohol (200 proof?).
Called it Purple Passion until one day...
A friend said "What's that purple stuff?"
I poured him a cup and he drank.
"JESUS!!!"
From then on we called it Purple Jesus.
;-)

11. the 60's sounds about right.
imagine a 40 gallon trash can and a canoe paddle at a frat party.

recipe for "moosemilk", add one case everclear, two cases cheap vodka, 48 frozen concentrated grape juice cans, water, secret ingredients, stir.

the guy who mixed this stuff was the only rhodes scholar that i have ever known.

hours later came the barfing olympics. the pledges had to go on puke detail the next morning, more puke. took days to recover.

think that this concoction is/was also known in other areas as "purple passion".

"purple jesus" is a good decriptive name.

13. think this is some kind of universal deal
the culture of the times maybe.

wish i could remember the secret handshake or the founders names.

does "shield and diamond" ring a bell?

upstairs at the frat house took the major hit, the carpet was real nasty after the drains in the showers got plugged up.

the next year we chartered a bus and hired a party ranch. "moosemilk" was served, two 40-gallon trash cans. poor bus.

14. musings on moosemilk
My uncle drank moosemilk in the immediate post war 40s at U. VA law.
Out of a mason jar. He claims the jar edge left a mark on the bridge of his nose you can still see today.;-)

I will de-chifferobe (n. Chiefly Southern U.S.

(uses 4 boxes of Jello instead of 1). My wife read the ingredients and almost strangled me for poisoning the kids.
