Yeah..this is a little off the wall but for the life of me I don't know anybody or even anybody who knows anybody who has this "Holiday" off unless you're a state or Federal worker.
I've got a suggestion:
Let's change the name to "Presidents Day for Government Workers"

I suppose you've guessed by now that I just don't want to go to work tomorrow....while 3 of my Pals (who work for uncle Sam) are going to the Beach! Grrr.. :)

1. When I was a kid
in the north obviously we had both Lincoln and Washington's birthdays off. I think they started reducing the two days to one when Martin Luther King Jr.s bd was made a holiday. It might have been earlier...but I don't remember.

2. No, that was it.
Instead of adding a third holiday, they merged two.

I vaguely remember having Prez Day off ... someplace. Aren't banks/post offices closed?

3. Yup!
In New Jersey we had Lincoln's Birthday as a school holiday on Feb. 12, and Washington's Birthday on Feb. 22. We also had Columbus Day off on Oct. 12.

I believe, but can't remember, that they may have been combined by Nixon when he decreed that many holidays should take place on Mondays. Or maybe it was due to MLKing Day.

11. This Monday holiday crap serves only one purpose
Corporate convenience! It's easier and cheaper to have a three-day weekend than to have a holiday in the middle of the week.

I say let's roll back the Monday holiday law so my mom (God rest her soul) could have her birthday as a national holiday again!

6. banks are closed, post office is closed,
and once upon a time many other businesses took this holiday as well.

My company takes it as a holiday but customer service was offered the opportunity to work tomorrow for double time with a free lunch and it will also be a casual day. There will be door prizes too.

so I said I would work. Double time and a free lunch is good for me.

then Tues/Wed they want some of us to stay later because a lot of phone calls are expected..again, we get lunch tickets for the cafeteria worth $6.50 each and time and 1/2 for the extra time on each day.

I like the way this company thinks.

for a very large corporation that recognizes Monday as a national holiday. We are not a state or federal agency.
