2. Whatever happened to that skinny blonde
who was in the TV series? She seems to have never done anything else.

14. Trilliam? Played by Sandra Dickensen, Peter Davison's wife? She went on to
become a voice for the Teletubbies!

In the UK.

Seriously.

4. How are they going to tell the whole story in 90 to 120 minutes?
They'll be hard-pressed to beat the original BBC series!

15. The BBC TV series was. 180 minutes and composed the first 2 books:
eps 1-4 were HHG and 5 & 6 was "Restaurant At the end og the universe" condensed even more than the first book was.

So, in 100 minutes, they'll be chopping something (and adding commercials!!)

5. My favorite line from the radio series:
The history of warfare is (divided into three phases) Retribution, Anticipation, and Diplomacy. Thus:

Retribution:
I'm going to kill you because you killed my brother.

Anticipation:
I'm going to kill you because I killed your brother.

Diplomacy:
I'm going to kill my brother and then kill you on the
pretext that your brother did it.

16. I prefer this part:
(from memory)

The Infinite Improbability Drive is a wonderful new method of crossing vast interstellar distances in a few seconds, without all that tedious mucking about in hyperspace.

The principles of generating small amounts of finite improbability, by hooking the logic circuits of a Bambleweeny 57 Sub-Meson Brain up to an atomic vector plotter suspended in a strong Brownian motion producer (say, a nice hot cup of tea), were of course well understood, and such generators were often used to break the ice at parties by making all the molecules in the hostess' undergarments leap simultaneously one foot to the left, in accordance with the Theory of Indeterminacy. There were many respectable physicists who said they wouldn't stand for that sort of thing; partly because it was a debasement of science, but mostly because they didn't get invited to those sorts of parties.

Another thing they couldn't stand was the perpetual failure they encountered in their attempts to create a machine that was capable of generating the vast infinite improbability field needed to flip a spaceship between the furthest stars. And in the end, they grumpily announced that such a machine was virtually impossible.

Then one morning, a student, who had been left to sweep up the lab after a particularly unsuccessful party, found himself reasoning this way: "If such a machine is a virtual impossibility," he thought, "then logically it must be a finite improbability. So all I have to do in order to make one, is to work out just how improbable it is, then feed that figure into the finite improbability generator, give it a fresh cup of really hot tea, and turn it on!"

He did this, and was startled to discover that he had managed to create the long-sought-after Infinite Improbabiliy Drive out of thin air.

It startled him even more when, just after he was awarded the Galactic Institute's Prize for Extreme Cleverness, he got lynched by a rampaging mob of respectable physicists, who had finally decided that the one thing they really couldn't stand was a smartass.

10. Hence a phrase that has passed into hitchhiking slang, as in...
"Hey you sass that hoopy Ford Prefect? There's a frood who really knows where his towel is." (Sass: know, be aware of, meet, have sex with; hoopy: really together guy; frood: really amazingly together guy.)

at my band's first gig, the opening group projected the tv show onto a large screen behind them. they were all dressed up in space suits and robot costumes and played synthesizers. sadly, it was their first and last gig :p

their name was "dystopian disco force"

Edited on Sun Mar-06-05 08:11 PM by notmyprez
you need Netscape 7 or above. Man, I really hate that shit when all these companies try to force you to keep upgrading software when there probably isn't even any good reason to do so in most cases. (And it wasn't that long ago that I upgraded Netscape.)

21. Love the new trailer, but...um...where's Zaphod's other head?
I just saw the one on Sam Rockwell's shoulders. Did they dispense with it?
