4. there is a springfield ky
but it is on or near the Ohio River, near Evansville IN, as I recall....Springfield IL is on the Sangamon River, and Springfield MO is on the James River.

7. That's My Neck of the Woods
There's no Springfield around here, although there is one in central KY, near Bardstown (no river, though...just a wide spot in the road).

10. thanks for the clarification
I just knew that it was east of where I used to live, and nearer the Ohio than the Mississippi river.

When all that snow melts, it'll be in the river.

8. So, what's Springfield's real-life counterpart?
Hickman? Columbus? Wickliffe? Sassafras Ridge?

11. Matt Groening is playing us all like a Stradivarius!
Sooner or later, Springfield will appear somewhere else.
