A Question for Duers. Has anyone ever heard of Quick Star?
A teacher from a local school wants my wife and I to listen to a presentation by she and her husbaand about a thing called "Quick Star". It smells to me much like an "AL Williams"/"Amway" type of thing.

While my wife and I are interested in making more $$$, I don't entirely like this couple, much of the reason being that they are right wingers. My wife has a speaking relationship with the other wife since they are both teachers, but we have no desire to get into a "business" that requires us to "build a team", and ropes you into seminars that are "vital to your business" where we'd get cheerleading and far right political indoctrination. We are also suspicious about somebody with whom we've had no more than a hello/goodbye relationship all of a sudden acting like we've been friends for 25+ years.

If that is what "Quick Star" is, we don't even want to hear about it!

Thanks in advance for your feedback!

1. If it's QUIXTAR, run away, run away!!
Edited on Mon Mar-14-05 02:54 PM by tjdee
"In the past few months, Amway and its distributors have been hyping their "incredible new opportunity for creating billionaires." To be known as "Quixtar.com," this "incredible opportunity" will create a large virtual mall which will sell Amway-branded products, as well as products which Amway will distribute. Corporate spokesmen are quick to point out that Quixtar is not Amway. However, Quixtar is "owned by the families who started Amway," and will be incorporated in the State of Delaware by the DeVos and Van Andel families."

10. What you say reminds me...
...of our church's "pre-canna" class. When my then fiance and I attended we were told that "natural family planning" wasn't the "rhythm method" and were then put through 2 hours of training in the "rhythm method".

For you non-Catholics, "rhythm" is essentially birth control by calendar. Pure BS!

21. What were your instructor's qualifications?
NFP isn't rhythm, and shouldn't use past cycles to predict where you are in your present one. A qualified instructor should have taught how to determine one's state of fertility based on physiological indicaators including basal temperature, cervical position and quality of mucus. Past cycles should be used only to determine the length of one's luteal phase (ther period from ovulation to menstruation) and predict the start of the next period.

Sorry to go off topic, but I'm a rather enthusiastic NFP user, even though I'm not Catholic. :)

3. It's Amway's internet store
I knew some people who were absolutely convinced they were going to get rich off of it. It's very cult-like and sad to see otherwise good people whose only crime is being a bit too trusting get sucked into it.

5. Quixtar is the latest incarnation of Amway
Run, don't walk away from the invitation! My husband and I learned a lot more about them this last year when hubby found out that an old friend of his got caught up in it. Very cult-like, very right-wing and a rip-off of time and energy for everybody but the higher muckity-mucks who rake in all of the money from the "
seminars" and motivational tapes and literature.

If you're interested, google Amway, Quixtar, or multi-level marketing. You'll read some real horror stories.

16. Hello! and Greetings from Rockland. If you want more info
my husband tried to do this, you can pm me if you want. but this is a very "cultish" deal. If you don't conform to their ideals, the people in your "pyramid" above you will not let you get any futher in their line, you'll basically be screwed, after spending money on membership, audio tapes and seminars, and the time to boot. The people in the upline get paid to do the seminars that you have to goto and you have to pay for. This is where most of the peoples income comes from not the products.

23. Amway Alert!
These people fascinate me. My friend and I had a pack of Amway jackals after us for awhile and just out of curiosity, we went to a couple of meetings. They tell you that a.) Amway is the best thing that ever happened to anybody in it and b.) you can't tell anyone you approach that it's Amway because it has such a bad reputation. :wtf:

So I asked them, why does it have such a lousy rep? Could it possibly be because you people act like you're ashamed of being involved in it? You would think that if it were so great, those involved would be shouting from the rooftops instead of using euphemisms like "would you like to make more money?"

It stuns me that so many seemingly intelligent people get sucked into this shit. My advice - flee swiftly!

It sounds like the old AL Williams thing where you weren't supposed to tell people that it was AL Williams until they were in!

My wife and I have NO desire to "build a team" or go to "business" seminars. YUK!

I got suckered into AL Williams in 1989, not long before the looney redneck homophobe right wing football couch, Art Williams, got tossed out by Sandy Weill.

My experience was MUCH like yours. NEVER, NEVER AGAIN!

31. Dumbest thing I have ever heard about was Quixstar
My old roommate got involved in this, I always took him for a smart guy, we had electrical engineering classes together. After he graduated and couldn't find a job (ended up being a big slacker in school) he was working at this cell phone booth when a coworker convinced him we would be making $60k in a year. He tried to tell me about it but I started laughing saying you got you self involved in a pyramid scheme. He tried to tell me it was a "legal pyramid scheme" as far as I know he didn't make a cent off of it, I assume he is still doing it because he thinks it is easy to become a millionaire. I stopped living with him a year ago he moved back home into his parents basement and was working at the local ski area last time I heard.

So my advice stay away from this shit it only works out for the people that signed you up.

36. What Amazes Me...
...is tht people who get roped into pyramids continue to think that they're going to get rich when they still don't have the proverbial pot after (sometimes) YEARS!

The lady who recruited mi into AL Williams (now Primerica Financial Services, so be on the lookout) is still a good friend to my wife and I, but what amazes me is that she makes a subsistance living in it after about 17 years and believes she is a millionaire in waiting.

...lent us a DVD about the Yeagers. What turned me off was that in their story they had BOTH bushes giving testimonial. These people have apparently drank the kool-aid so much that they ignore my wife' and my OBVIOUS political convictions. They even know that we are both DUers (She is ChicaAzul), which I'm sure that ann, sean, rush, et. al., have given them their marching order about.

have the yeagers been tossed out? Your mentioning them makes me curious.

I think they are mostly money centered, but their two day rallies usually end with a big, holy roller finale. I've never been so creeped out in my life.

And I mean it when I say I threatened them to keep them away from me.
