All right...my department as a 'thank you' for meeting my goals let's me and my manager go to a paid lunch for two hours. My boss and I really don't agree on any political topic or any other topic we have managed to talk about. So, I reach my goal about two months ago...no lunch yet...not even a mention of it....So I asked her today if instead of going to lunch for two hours can I just leave work two hours early.
Our whole department is getting laid off in June, so I have no reason to kiss her butt...do we really have to make small talk for two hours as a 'thank you'? or can I just go home and work on resumes?
Doing either can get you a less-than favorable reference. Keep in mind though that legally a former employer can't really say whether you were an outstanding employee or less-than-outstanding because they could be sued for libel.
If you don't really get along, I don't see how she could take it as an insult. Unless she's just really high strung / touchy. Either way as you said you have your references so I suggest you take your time off that you've earned and enjoy. :)
I suggested he order pizza for the whole crew instead as they had all contributed to the effort. We didn't get any pizza. This guy is a big ole Fat boy and I suspect he just wanted to pig out with the company card and use taking me out as an excuse. Why would I want to go dine with a person I have no respect for and have nothing in common with? Sounds like some kind of punishment to me. (I work in a different dept now!)
